1st ride in 6 weeks on my carbed Ducati

with zero issues. Lit right up, left on choke (progressively removed) then down to a perfect (but low) idle. Did 45 miles on my normal loop.

Last start/ride was documented April 27.

Results of very fine, careful carb tuning on my 900SS has resulted in performance rivaling my other (FI) Ducati.

Bought it brand new in '95 ....with 39,000 mi. now on the odo, its never left me stranded on the road.
The specific to Ducati belts and valves always done to schedule. Just a K&N drop in air filter in stock airbox, with MBP valve collets (the collets extend the valve check intervals and actually sustain/stabilize adjustment between)

My one and only breakage was a $6 (internal) shift shaft return spring, was still able to ride it home.

The old air-cooled 2 valve "Desmodue" are solid as a rock. Nope, not the fastest out there, but a superb handler, its great vibe draws conversations and thumbs up wherever I go.

Nice ride Gordon, that bike looks like it has zero miles on it from that shot.

ty @Caligirrl, though its got some heavy competition as to which one actually gets the key (pic is its main "competitor", the FI 800SS)

Nice looking bikes Gordon !
I'm wondering which one you would ride for a long trip ? they all are crotch-rockets to me, and look uncomfortable for the long haul .... but I suppose it's all in what your used too !
I find myself choosing any other bike but the Ninja for that very reason
and I've got it set up really nice.... but it's just not as cumfy as the other bikes !...
....
Nice looking hurd of bikes ! and they all work too ! the problem is which one do I ride to day ...Right ? LOL
( that's a good problem to have!)
...
Bob.......

Gosh I'm a sucker for a CBR; hardly a bike has been made that's better. I would appreciate the 650r based on my experience on the old '90s 600s I used to ride.

Drew-

7k trouble-free miles on the totally stock, dependable powerplant, I4 defines smooth! Super quiet, I dig its "stealth" quality...great street machine, I'd highly recommend it.

I totally get it. If I were to go towards another I4 I would be looking hard at that bike. I love I4s too. At this point though, if I find myself in the position of replacing my SV, I suspect I would pick up a CBR300r.

5 weeks since my initial startup/ride.....I repeated the scenario yet again as the bike went untouched since, encountering the same exact results....perfect starting/idling. Raining today so unable to actually ride it, but I'll get out in the next day or 2. This old carbed Ducati defies logic, doing precisely what was intended. Amazing.

just back on the 900SS from an 84 mile jaunt to a nearby wildlife refuge.

All I can say is the thing carburates/runs/handles impeccably, zero issues anywhere in the RPM range.

posted above about my last ride on the carbed 900SS July 27.....after another 4 week layup I did another 40+ miles this morning. Starts, idles, accelerates fine.

Discovered my integrated LED turn signal/tailight is not flashing on the LH side, got it traced down to 1 particular wire, fixing it now. No biggy.

Nice, just rectified a similar issue on my hardly-ridden Ninjette: wiring/malfunctioning lighting. Ready to ride once I put it back together but the SV has been getting all the seat time.
