Aloha!

Long-time rider, but took a break for a while. Back in the saddle with a 2019 Ninja 400 abs. I am struggling through the break-in 500 miles. It's a challenge to not crank it .

Cheers,

Bill

Hello Bill, it's good to meet you. Are they still clinging to those archaic break-in specs?

Thanks All. Yes Under 4K for the first 500. Change oil and filter. Then under 6K for the next 500 miles

Oh my, I can't do it. In order to do 60 mpg, you have to go over 4K. I rode to work today. One way requires 15 minutes at 70. Another has a 55 single lane zone where cars do 60. I tried on the way in. I slowed down so an old lady in a Nissan Versa could pass me. Humiliating! On the way home I just road it gently but got up to 60 when necessary.

Welcome!

You know, on a new bike, a few people around here would say that 20 hard laps at a race track, then change the oil and the filter and your break-in is done.

You can ride harder than the manual suggests - just do the 1st oil change sooner.
