HELP I laid my bike down and now it won't start

Hello! So, I bought my bike today and guess what? First thing I do was laid it down... It took a couple minutes for me to get it back up (with help from a neighbor). I tried to start it up, but it won't do it.

It was laid down on the left side. When I tried to start it, it wouldn't start. I turned it on and the FI light came on then shut off. The brake lights, turn signals and emergency lights work. The headlights aren't working. What do I do?

Btw, I'm a complete noob. And my bike is a 2006 Ninja 650r.

Thanks.

Here's a video of me trying to start it.

Start simple, is the kickstand or the kickstand switch damaged in any way?

Your Ninja knows it and doesn't want to take you for a second ride

Welcome to our site !!!

It may have been flooded.
If you close the petcock and give her some time, it may re-start just fine.

Check the level of oil with the bike vertical and on the tires before attempting starting.

As Chris has advised, the safety switches my be damaged.

Did you lay it down or drop it? Dropping is 0mph laying it down is not. Sounds like it was just flooded and probably started 5 minutes later. FI bikes have a tip over sensor located somewhere under your seat usually. They detect when the bike has fallen over to kill the motor so that it doesn't damage itself. Usually takes a few minutes to get its pep back but should be fine.

If not that - like they said check the kickstand, make sure you're in neutral. If those don't work sell the bike and buy an R6.

I don't think he did enough damage to buy a R6 just yet. He may need to really, really drop it first.

And welcome to the site!

The kick stand switch seemed fine. I managed to get it started but it would only start if the kickstand was up and the clutch pulled in. Do you know what is wrong?

Either it is in gear or the neutral safety switch is bad.

In order for the bike to start you have to either:

a) have the kickstand up, and bike in nuetral
b) have the kickstand up and be in first gear while holding in the clutch
c) have the bike on it's kickstand and in nuetral

The bike is designed to shut off if the bike is in gear with the kickstand down. I'd advise you to take a motorcycle safety course (msf course) before you damage your bike any further, but more importantly before you hurt yourself.

I don't see the neutral light, it seems to be in gear. Shift it to neutral and try starting it. It will work.

How did you do in the class? What made you want to spend more money on a 650r whenever you really don't understand how your motorcycle works? I'm really just confused on how one could take the MSF class and pass and have this issue that you had. FINEC?? Not trying to nag at you but for the sake of your life and your wallet, pay attention man.

His green neutral light doesn't turn on now. That's a huge clue.
