motorycylists must now wear neon vest...

despite opposition from various motorcycle organizations, specially the ama...the never ending policies to protect motoryclists from themselves, the politicians has just passed a bill in the legislature to make motorcyclists wear neon vests similar to what caltrans workers now wear...now we can look dorky but more noticeable...

april fools!!!!...

I have to wear one, and unfortunately, that's not a prank.

But I do love Icon for making them a bit more stylish.

I voluntarily wear one sometimes depending on conditions so I wouldn't mind if this actually happened.

I always wear one. Required by the military in uniform, in dark clothing, or at night. Unfortunately, if I'm not in uniform, I'm wearing my jacket which is black. Mine is by Bilt though. Looks the same as the Icon one, only $25 cheaper.

I've thought about getting one, to go over my mesh jacket if I wear it at night. My line of thinking is that I don't need it during the day, and at night it would increase visibility and keep me a bit warmer.

My reason for wanting it, though, is that I keep thinking about what would happen if I went down on one of the massive potholes or road transitions that we have through the construction zones, and the 80000 lbs truck behind me didn't see me sprawled out in the road.

I have a ex-friend that wears one. I rode with him once. I made him ride at least a quarter mile behind me. Then he fell over in a parking lot (on his Harley). Took two other guys to pick him up. By the time I got back to him he was cover in dirt and he was bright red with embarrassment. I won't ride with him anymore. I won't even hang with him. He's an accident waiting to happen.

My husband and I actually worked on a lighting project that required we where bright yellow, on top of having tons of bright orange cones out, a big lane closed sign, and a huge bucket truck with flashing lights. Even with all of that I nearly got ran over multiple times, the problem isn't that motorcyclists aren't visible enough it is that the majority of drivers do not pay enough attention. Vests aren't going to fix the problem.
