stock exhaust questions

I have a 2009 250. I want to put the stock 300 canister on it. Has anyone done it yet? Could someone measure the diameter of the inlet on the canister so i will know if it would be a bolt on fit. thanks a million.

canister

ok, I bought a canister from a local guy for $35. the cheap-scape in me almost feels like I paid too much. he jumped on $35 really fast. now I'm thinking $25 would have been enough. lol After reading on the different forums it seems like the canister inlet is the same diameter on the 300 and the 250. also I noticed a few people saying the had clearance issues with aftermarket 250 exhaust canister on the 300.
I may have to go with 300 passenger pegs. but in any case I think the 300 canister will be a visual improvement to the little ninja. and another member here is currently making new guts to go in the stock 300 canister. I am following that closely in hopes I can improve the sound on the cheap while I save for the area p system.

Well i slipped it on this morning. It definitely needs the 300 passenger pegs. Mount holes don't line up. Good news is i should be getting a set of pegs and brackets free!! Of course it sounds the same. Or so close i can't tell a difference. But in my opinion it looks better. A little shorter too.

As promised, the fairing may look a little odd, I just stuck it on the bike to make a better picture. the fairings and nose are off while my wife gets comfortable with the bike. My foot does touch the front of the heat shield but it did the same thing on the 2009 stock canister too. Just slightly louder, it has a little more pop sound when coming off the gas slowing down. Still rated to the same 80 decibel level as the other can, but I think due to the 300 having integrated catylist conv. it helps make the exhaust quieter. maybe the muffler didn't have to be as quiete because the cat helps? idk, just guessing.

I'm assuming those parts are off in case of a drop? I'm pretty sure you could mess up a lot more stuff on the bike with them off rather than on. If anything I'd say just put some frame sliders on the bike and make sure she's confident, she'll be fine!

Looks WAY better than stock.

install was simple? Old can off, new can on? (besides the bracket of course.)

i don't see the plastic fairings protecting anything. frame sliders normally don't protect fairings. just the frame.

so far it is. but I'm still waiting on the pegs from a 300 to be sure. the exhaust gasket isn't perfect and the 250 and 300 do have different part #'s for that so I'm not sure which one would work better. will update when i know more.

You'd be surprised what some quality frame sliders can keep from getting damaged at low speed drops which is usually the kind of drop/crash that would happen to a noobie.

To each their own though, good luck with the bike and hope she has fun!
