Cush Dive Free Play
Is there any factory data on the limit of free play on the cush drive ? I seem to have around .25" of free play. Seems like way too much. I will be shimming the cush drive but was just wondering if there was any factory specs on this?
Thanks |

The manual says "Replace the damper if it appears damaged or deteriorated." Not much of a spec.

Shim it as much as you can and still get it together.
There doesn't need to be any "slack", just enough to get it assembled. In case you haven't seen it - https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_to...the_cush_drive I've used ABS plastic. Makes a big difference, especially in on/off/on throttle transitions. Much better. |

Inner tube rubber comes to mind.

Beware that lots of info in FAQ is incomplete, outdated or just outright wrong.
In this case, it's partially incomplete. Rather than shimming all 12 spots, shim backside uncompressed rubbers. So when chain spins sprocket-carrier forward, it compresses normal unshimmed rubber cushions. Shims should only go on backside rubbers that's compressed much less when you let up throttle and use engine-braking. This results in much less pressure on shimmed stack and lots less squirming. |

I've had luck with a newer, used one, from a newgen 250 / 300. It was a perfect fit, and nice and snug.
