Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new bike and license.

Having stands makes the bike easier to work on and check oil, do oil changes, etc. It also keeps the tires off the ground. This prevents flat spots on your tires. If you ride your bike a lot the tires don't always rest on the same spot, so don't worry if you ride your bike often.

I put my bike up on stands all the time - front and rear, after a ride. Sometimes I don't get to ride for a week or two, and this keeps my tires in good shape. When winter comes and it's 5-6 months of storage I use them also.

Anyone know of a quality stand that's fairly decent priced?

For the money...T-rex is hard to beat. Only other choice is Harbor Freight stands for just a bit less...

I bought PSR stands from motorcycle-superstore. The rear works great, but the front needed 2 washer/shims to get the forks to line up properly. They're very well priced.

Having a rear stand is important since you want to keep your chain clean and oiled every so often.

If you want a rear stand that supports spools...then yes. Otherwise you're stuck with the swingarm stands. I think those are cheaper anyway. Or you could go the super fancy route and get one of the race paddock ones that'll support both haha.

It really comes in handy when you have to change a tire.

Tire warmers, changing tires, etc. General maintenance such as changing oil is easier. Most racing organizations won't let you keep a side/center stand. You don't need spools if you get a stand setup to be used without them. I prefer Pitbull stands. They make a rear stand that is convertible for use with or without spools.

My T-Rex stands also came with both inserts for spools or swingarm rest.

...Or you can hunt Craigslist. We ended up getting a CIA rear stand for $50 and a Pitbull newfront stand for $70 and both are in great condition. If you know what to look for, you can find great deals.

If you've got the time hunt Craigs List for Pit Bull stands. They are THE best stands on the market. They'll last you a lifetime and are well worth the money. The problem with cheap stands is they can fail and put your bike on the ground...
