Metro Tragedy in Washington, DC

I grew up there and remember when the Metro Rail was new. It's grown leaps and bounds since then. Hopefully this won't be an indicator of a breakdown in the infrastructure that let it all work safely.

Oof, that hits close to home. I've taken the red line more than a couple times. It looks like they're saying that it was a failure of the automatic safety devices that keep trains from colliding. If I remember correctly, there was a collision on the Red line a few years ago for the same reason. The only other accidents I can remember on the Metro were minor and weather-related.

I hadn't heard about that as I choose not to watch the news - how terribly sad. The link about the driver meticulously ironing her uniform because she was so proud of her job brought tears to my eyes.
