So is the Ducati an acceptable submission (if so, new challenge?) or is someone out looking for a monster tree? I think I saw a cottonwood in my area that was knarly and old enough but it was in the middle of a fenced off field.

My bike is only 5 days old. So how about biggest tree wins. Sunday is the dead line 1 week from when I posed challenge. I was hoping for a Sequoya. I have a knarly old tree but it comes up a bit short. I need daylight at home which does not happen on weekdays.

No playing with perspective.

I like this. We should probably have a weekend "all in" challenge on top of the usual challenge. "Biggest tree" is a good one because most everyone can get involved, though it'd be hard to quantify the size even with the Ninjette in view (trick photography!).

Well, it took me riding up and down the river for an hour, but I finally found one bigger than my bike that I could park next to and didn't have an annoyed canine defending his turf.

Unfortunately no, I do not know in history on it, specifically. I do know, about 20 miles north of here, there is a portion of the California Emigrant Trail where diary entries from the mid- to late-1800's indicate that the travelers crossing the 40 mile desert begin to see the cottonwoods of the Carson River. So desperate were they to reach water, they begin dropping the heavier items out of their wagons just to get there (the same diary entries indicate walking past scattered goods and materials, sometimes whole wagons, abandoned in the final push for water). Those that finally made it to the river reach the place called Ragtown, so named because of all the emigrant clothing (reduced to rags) that were just stretched everywhere drying after being cleaned by the water of the river.

I had hoped that some of those trees that were seen over 150 years ago may have survived the development of the Lahontan Valley. There were some beautiful old grandfather trees out the middle of fields, but none along the roadways. As I was giving up and heading home, I rode past that tree near the high school and saw I could park right at its foot.
