Smrz onthe Padgetts Honda


CZECH rider Jakub Smrz set the benchmark in the official MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship test at Snetterton yesterday, pushing ahead of Alex Lowes and champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne in the final minute of the day.

Fans got an exclusive preview of the forthcoming round as Lowes set the standard initially in the sunshine on the Samsung Honda, although it wasn’t until the final session that he was able to carve ahead of Byrne’s best lap from the morning.

However, as the chequered flag came out to end the final session, a stunning last lap from Smrz saw the Padgetts Honda rider blast to the front of the pack by 0.186 seconds to head off Lowes and Byrne.

Smrz said: “I was very happy with what we have done today; I love the track because it is more like what I am used to compared to somewhere like Knockhill. I think the lap time could have been even faster but I made a few small mistakes on my last lap. I think though that we can leave this test happy as we have been able to do enough today and it will be important for when we come back here for the races.”
