If you really think that "There is not one outcome that you having a gun makes the situation better." you are sadly ignorant. I can think of dozens of outcomes that having a gun would make this situation better. First and foremost, if the assailant had decided to use his weapon (assuming there actually was one underneath the sweater) the OP would've at least had a chance to defend his wife, himself, and the other innocent party. Having a weapon is no guarantee of safety, but at least it doesnt make you totally dependent on the whimof a piece of **** who is clearly demonstrating he has no regard for the laws of society. Violent animals need to be dealt withwith overwhelming violence in order to be put down. Otherwise, they continue to prey on what they percieve to be weak and easy targets. With all of the above being said, OP you did a good job not escalating the situation given the circumstances. The most important outcome from your perspective is that your wife is unhurt and no other innocent parties were physically hurt in this siutation. However, Im sure if you could do it over again, you would choose to have a means to defend yourself 100 out of 100 times. Lastly, **** LA and CA's Soviet style, anti 2nd Amendment laws which do not allow law abiding regular citizens to obtain CCWs. Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Rosie Odonell, and Diane Feinstein all have CCWs, but they of course are your Liberal betters and are more 'equal'than you. The local commissars in Los Angeles and Orange Counties (the County Sherrifs) have deemed it unnecessary for the proletariat to be able to exercise their God given right of self defense and preservation. OP, glad you're safe. Going forward, always try to maintain your situational awareness and constantly take stock of who and what is around you. Sometime, you end up in a situation that you had no control over, but other times, paying keen attention will allow you to avoid potentially dangerous situations. Also, educate yourself about firearms and your local laws and get yourself (and your wife) a weapon that you are comfortable with. Train with said weapon and get proficient with it. Although you stand next to a zero chance of obtaining a CCW in most urban counties in CA, you can still keep firearms in your domecile for self defense which will at least give you a measure of security in your home. Finally, share your exeprience with other anti-gun folks who think the police are going to swoop in and save them in an emergency. There is an old saying, "when seconds counts, the police are only minutes away." Understand that in a life threatening situation, your well being is solely in your hands. Good luck. Oh and Havok, I hope you enjoy your new governor Jerry Brown and his impending social marxism assault on the remaining vestiges of the 2nd Amendment left in CA . |

The political rants get tiresome here. Plenty of places on the internet to share your thoughts on this. This isn't one of them.

Have you considered making future purchases in a less hostile environment;such as, Southwest DC, the South Bronx or Yemen?

I'm in DC and rarely have a problem, but then again Yellowman once told after a five day stupor at CBGB, "You're the scariest white dude I've ever met!"
So, I got that going for me. All we gotta do is find someone in Yemen and we got it covered!
