Hello from Iowa

New owner of a 2003 Ninja 250, so I hope there's still some activity around here. :-)

Older guy, getting back into riding after a fairly long hiatus. I'm a bigger guy (6'2", 240lbs), so past bikes have mainly been big cruisers and dressers, but I've always admired the simplicity and efficiency of smaller sportier bikes. Went online looking for something sporty and midsized that I could try out for not much money. Kept running into ads for Ninja 250s everywhere (had never seen one before). Got curious enough to read up on them a little, then was in a town with one for sale, and checked it out. Ended up bringing it home. Have taken it for a few late-fall rides on the northwest Iowa backroads, and I'm just having loads of fun. What a little overachiever of a motorcycle. Hard to say how long I'll keep it (maybe forever), but at a minimum it's taught me that a bigger older guy like me CAN ride a sporty bike, and it doesn't have to be anything big or pricey to have fun.

Over the winter, I'll go through the bike thoroughly, put on some new tires and maybe some stiffer fork springs, then look forward to riding the wheels off it next spring. Open to any advice/questions anyone has. Thanks!

Welcome, Tim! I was pleasantly surprised when I bought my '05 so my daughter would have something to ride when she visits. I may have more miles on it than she does.

Hi, Jim! Yeah, I have to say, the little bike has changed my motorcycle worldview, a bit. It took some time to get used to running the motor at revs that would have blown up my cruisers, but once you realize it doesn't mind it at all, you just wind it up and go to town.
