Matte Black Shoei RF-1100 Shield (Opinions and Help Needed)!!!

Hi I have searched high and low for pictures of any matte black helmets with spectra shield or with dark smoke shields.

Being disappointingly unsuccessful in finding pictures, I was hoping I could get some people to post some pictures of matte black helmets (any brand) with either a spectra shield or a dark smoke shield...

Lastly, please voice your opinion on what you think looks better with a matte black helmet, Spectra (silver/mirror) or Dark Smoke?!?

Thank you!

Personally like the look of the mirrored visor with most helmets, but dark smoke on a matte black helmet looks badass.

Here is your helmet with mirrored:

And here it is in dark smoke, though a stylish pic, not a very color accurate one:

Here is a Bell with dark smoke screen that has the badass look:

I own a shoei .. honostly go smoked.

It's dark enough in the day and at night I can still see (in city conditions) with the smoked shield on.

I no longer carry my extra (clear) shield around with me if I think I may or may not get stuck out somewhere after the sun goes down. I had a mirrored one with my old helm (pictured on the left) and I had to switch it because you couldn't see anything out of it at night.

I have the rf1100 with the darm smoke shield and i'd recommend it. Even though I don't do much night riding, you can still see fine with the dark shield like the poster above said.

Sorry for the off-topic. Is this regarding the Shoei mirrored visor (I think they call it Spectra)? I was thinking about getting one but wouldn't if it did this.

Thank you.

I think it was in reference to all mirrored visors (shields). I will note in the helmets I've seen (yes including a Shoie Rf-1100) their is minimal visibility in low light coniditions and there is a bit of reflection inside. You will look past the reflection as your focused on the road not on your immediate view on the shield. I will note that it is however there.

I was in Cycle Gear looking at the different visors and picked up the shoei spectra shield and the dark smoke. The spectra has less tint on it than the dark smoke. I was able to see more out of the spectra than the dark smoke. I ended up with the dark smoke because I like the looks and I prefer a darker tint while riding in direct sunlight. I see my reflection with the dark smoke as well. It may not be as bad as the spectra though.

Also, consider that a matte black finish will make it much harder for cagers to see you.

Go for the dark smoke first. Then maybe later for a fun visor get the mirrored one. That's what I'm going to do.

I have a RF-1100 in white (most visible color before the green/fluorescent/neon ones) with a dark smoke visor. Looks very nice and dark smoke is very useable.

I will be getting a mirrored spectra visor someday since they look so cool. But for practicality the dark smoke is the better buy.

Dark smoke isn't usable for night riding, even in city conditions. There is no way to pick up different pavement conditions, or any of the other cues that are necessary for safe riding. Put on dark sunglasses while driving at night, and it's the same concept. Light smoke is more feasible, but it's still something I would only do if no other option was available that particular day, being caught after dark unexpectedly for example. I have done it before, and had one particularly memorable scare not picking up an extended curb on a merge lane until I almost launched myself over it.

Really like dark smoke visors for bright trackdays, it makes for a much wider viewing area compared to running sunglasses under a clear shield.

(light smoke added to Poll. )

+1. See Motorcycle Conspicuity Study, which concludes: "Compared with wearing a black helmet, use of a white helmet was associated with a 24% lower risk of motorcycle crash related injuries."

Interesting comment from the study: "No association occurred between risk and the frontal colour of drivers' clothing or motorcycle."

This leads me to believe that our bodies blend in with the bike if viewed from the front, thus making helmet color even more important. Interesting.

I have a clear visor, with a sunstrip on top, for overcast days/night riding and a dark smoke one for the rest of the time. Oh, and I think mirrored visors are cool for the fun of it.
