Well..I just picked up a set of early R1's off of ebay a few minutes ago.Found out off Wiki, that the aftermarket R1's fit..so they should be in soon.I'll post pics when I fit them. They look great..

Like to see your mirrors when you get them mounted.

right on! hope they work out for ya..

although there was nothing wrong with the stock mirrors on my '03 EX, i wanted to find something abit smaller and opted to get these Sportbike Mirrors that you've more than likely seen for sale on e-bay. these are made of "high-impact" ABS, and are supposed to mount up right where the stock mirrors are.

mirrors00.jpg mirror01.jpg

the mounting process wasn't as easy as i had thought. they did use the existing mount points, but not the same hardware, using washers and nuts to secure the mirrors instead. this required having to remove the windscreen to try and fit handtools and hardware between fairing and instrument cluster. the windscreen on the bike is an after-market affair that has plastic nuts securing the screws and shield in place, again, making removal and installation of the windscreen a major pain in the ... you know...
having to remove the upper fairing for any reason after these mirrors are installed is gonna be just that much more time consuming.

mirror02.jpg mirror03.jpg

installation quirks aside, i'm happy with the mirrors. they didn't really enhance my rear-ward view, but i didnt get them for that reason...besides, any pre-gen 250 rider will tell ya there's more elbows than rears in them mirrors anyhoo!

keep us informed on how them R1 mirrors go

aloha

Speaking of mirrors, has anybody used the round convex blind spot mirrors on their bike? I was looking at a pair of those today but I'm wondering if they'd work at all...
Here's some pics...

The mirror pair is being sold for about $15 by an amazon seller called Bikerhiway. Dunno... any thoughts on this one?

no I don't, but Sailariel does. Also, consider putting them on the inboard portion of the mirrors where you can't see anything from there anyway. By putting them on the outboard portion of the mirror, you cover up the only functional real estate of the mirror.

I have the Wal Mart adjustable blind spot mirrors on my bike and they are great--whopping price $1.99. Look in the Picture section this forum--Monster Graphics, and scroll down. You will see what the mirrors look like.

Thanks for the pic reference. Sailariel, do you like them best in the upper outside corner as opposed to kkim's idea of putting them inboard?

Just trying to weight pros and cons...

try in different positions yourself and see. Buy some of that blu tack reusable adhesive stuff and you can stick them on in different places till you find what works for you. after you decide, you can tear off the self adhesive backing off the mirror and install them permanently.

Walmart 1.00+ each..Have'em on every vehicle I have! Get the smaller one not the golf ball sized one.The smaller ones have a better field of view..Saved my bacon many a time.

Where in the mirror do you position them? Towards the inside or outside? On the top or the bottom part?

I have those same mirrors, Komohana. I'm going to put them on when I put the bike back together (one fine day). I can already see what you mean about the mounting issues. I have an aftermarket screen on mine as well. The early 500R mirrors fit, but they sit at a different angle and it's a bit displeasing if you ask me.

The sticky convex things should be standard issue on all bikes IMO. They are priceless for keeping tabs on the traffic around you. I had them in the top outside corner and I plan to put another set on the new mirrors when they go on.

i had to attack the mounting hardware from over the top of the fairing where the windshield was, and from under the instrument cluster, now..working on F-4's sorta prepared me for that?...but it's not something i've perfected...contortion-ing i mean
have also considered doing the convex thing since reading these postings also. we have only a single lane of traffic in either direction, and for something like a freeway, i can see how those things could really save on how ya spend your dollar's worth of attention..

aloha

I think that as per Kelly`s recommendation, that I will experiment with where I will position the mirrors. 3M makes double sided foam tape that I am sure is better than the stuff the stock mirrors have on them. With a little practice, I`ll find the optimum position.

After all this good info I'm really going to put them in several spots and see how that goes.

Sailariel, be careful with that double-sided 3M foam tape, sometimes it can be a pain to scrape off the glue residue. At least that was my personal experience.

Goo Gone works well to remove most adhesives, if you ever need something to get all the leftover junk off.

Nani, Isopropyl alcohol seems to cut the glue pretty well. It`s also dirt cheap at Wal-Mart and Family Dollar.
