What do you, Unregistered, think of the "you" tag?

Personally it makes me want to load up the ol' 12 gauge with rock salt and hunt down the guy who invented it. What do you think?

I didn't bother to vote because none of the response are accurate for me. I think it can be useful, in fact I used it as a thread title asking for advice. I think in that case it's appropriate. I didn't understand it at first... and it caught me off guard... but I can see the use for it

As stupid as it sounds, I first saw it being used late last night on a thread about seeing concerts and I went to it thinking, "hey this guy genuinely cares about me and my life experiences. I should oblige him." So i go to the thread and see all these other people who surely aren't me replying. "But he's talking to me" I say. I logout in a fiery fury to see that it's just a "you" tag and I am now Unregistered user.

(look in their quotes. they are using the [ you ] tag, which means anyone who reads it sees their own name. that's the joke.)

I first saw the " you " tag on this forum... Actually, I still have not seen it anywhere else.

I'm proud to say I never fell for it. I thought it was a bit odd, something I hadn't seen before but the context plus the fact that I don't think I'm that important made me think it had to be something other than what it appeared to be. As soon as I saw random people questioning why they were mentioned it was clear what was going on.

This is kind of like when I was a kid and riding in a car looking out the window, the spokes of the car wheels in the next lane sometimes appeared to be going backwards. I didn't freak out because I knew there must have been an explanation for it. It took many years for me to understand what was going on, but it didn't take me that long to know that the world was not ending...

I actually believe that if someone could do real magic, people would not really be phased because they would also assume there must be a trick. If you've seen the movie "The Prestige" you might know better what I'm thinking about.

As Alex (the real Alex, Four letters starting with A and ending with X) said, if you hit the quote button you see what the person actually wrote; the unexecuted text or whatever the terminology is...

As for continuing to make jokes about it, like insulting said person, I hope those fade as they are getting old for the majority of people who at this point get it and have gotten it for a while

In all honesty though, I do think it's a nice attention grabber for thread titles. There have definitely been a few threads I would not have looked at had I not seen the [ you ] tag in use. Obviously I knew what it was, but it was enough for me to stop by and look.
