Awesome Glad to have you along.

Should be a good trip. I have a ride in at Corbin saturday morning, so I'm hoping my ass will feel real nice on the Sunday ride!

Also looking to pick up some pipes this Saturday too, so you guys might hear me coming all the way from the East Bay lol.

I think a few weeks ago when we did a similar ride to this me and Cam got in like 280 miles. If you come out I'm sure you'll have fun after all a nice road helps but riding with fun people can make even a poor road a blast

By the way there are no poor roads out there so it's a win win

It's gonna suck to group ride when I have a time constraint (gotta be in Palo Alto by Noon) Next time though promise! Gotta make sure I have all of my new gear before that too

By the way, an extra special THANK YOUUUUUU to @Jiggles for the hugeeeeeee help on shimming and removing the snorkel and taking that dumb California emissions thing out AND cleaning up my dirty bike. I learned a wealth of info from him about my bike today from him

Okay folks I'm planning on making an appearance. And since I still haven't gotten my registration, I'll still be rocking the "new" used dealership paper plate.

I have to mount my plate today. Been lazy about mounting it this week.

Show up with full tanks, folks! It does get out to the middle of nowhere, and gas is unavailable until you get all the way out to either Patterson or Livermore. There is a Chevron right next to the Starbucks to fill up before you grab coffee.

Major weight savings. These things weigh less than a third of the stock cans. Super cheap too.

It's interesting we're having a loud pipes discussion in the Mt. Hamilton thread. For those who aren't aware, the observatory at the top has decided to close their gates until noon due to excessive motorcycle noise waking up the astronomers who have a daytime sleeping schedule. It's a shame that it came to this, but it's yet another clear example why those who think "loudest is bestest!" are actually limiting the rights of other motorcyclists.

From this thread on SBR:

As some of you have already acknowledged, many of our telescope operators, staff astronomers and visiting research astronomers work through the night, 363 nights a year - weather permitting - and go to bed at daybreak. This schedule is difficult enough without dealing with significant extraneous noise from loud vehicles. Sound waves move right up the terrain and into our houses. Some motorcycles can be heard from as far away as the Smith Creek Cal Fire Station, some 6-1/2 miles down slope. We do not have HVAC systems in our residences on the mountain so we generally sleep with our windows open on warm summer mornings. However, even when we shut our windows to reduce the noise, they are only single pane glass (circa 1956) and the noise of some motorcycles comes right through.

Weekend morning motorcycle traffic on Mt. Hamilton Road has increased significantly over the past three years and has become even more problematic for day sleepers. One of our telescope operators recently relocated from a house on Tortilla Flats (the cluster of four houses on your left as you approach the summit) to one behind Kepler Peak because it is somewhat quieter there. However, no more residences are available in that housing cluster.

Our facilities open at 12 noon, Thursday - Sunday between Labor Day and Memorial Day and 7 days a week during the summer months. Up to now, we've opened the Main Building gates (parking lot) at 8:00 a.m. so San Antonio Valley residents have access to their post office boxes. Beginning in October, those gates will be programmed to open at 11:55 a.m. Our hope is that this will deter motorcyclists, car clubs, etc. from driving up to or through the observatory before noon. This will help our day sleepers get about 6 hours of sleep instead of the 2 or 3 hours that many are currently getting on weekends.

We have asked CHP to assist us by conducting vehicle noise enforcement on Mt. Hamilton Road so there can be a differentiation between motorcyclists who have sufficient exhaust system muffling from those who do not. We don't wish to paint everyone with the same broad brush. However, CHP states they simply do not have the budget to undertake such an enforcement initiative.

So, we will be asking motorcyclists to voluntarily assist us in this matter by making treks up Mt. Hamilton an afternoon endeavor. Signs will be posted on Mt. Hamilton Road asking for such cooperation and advising of the 12 noon - 5 pm operating and parking lot hours. We are a research institution that is, unfortunately, bifurcated by a state highway. We don't wish to negatively impact your riding fun, but we do need to reach some compromise so that our research efforts do not suffer.

Many on our staff, myself included, have gone to the effort of being trained as Emergency First Responders. We have done this because we are often the first on the scene of an accident on Mt. Hamilton Road. These accidents most often involve a bicycle or motorcycle. We are able to communicate via two-way radio directly to 911 dispatch. This is important because of the relative unreliability of cell phone coverage on Mt. Hamilton Road. We are able to meet a medivac copter on our helipad and transport the flight nurses to the injured party and, if necessary, transport back to the copter. I'm sharing this with you to let you know that we do not object to motorcycles or their riders. Some of our staff have bikes. The problem lies in the increasing number of loud motorcycles that travel to/through the observatory on weekend mornings.

Thank you for allowing me to share these concerns with you. Again, I appreciate any input or suggestions you may have.
