I build all types of road race bikes. I've built quite a few EX250's that have won in CMRA. Also did the suspension on the CBR250 that has been doing well out there. Basically same suspension as the EX. But the CBR has a better chassis.
I haven't ridden an old gen in a couple of years. The last one I rode had new gen forks w/ new gen rear wheel. We built it because our old gen had a couple more hp, but when the motor finally let go it was parked. Only pic I have on a new gen. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9479484@N02/6849984643/ Last futzed with by ROADandTRACK; February 23rd, 2012 at 04:55 PM. |

ArmourBodies Fender attachments
Further to this conversation, I am wondering if it is required/necessary to attach a race bodywork fender (such as ArmourBodies) to the two mounting points along the top of the fender on the back side.
It is still unclear how much of the bracket needs to be retained even if one makes the decision to "get rid of it". Any pix of various race set ups on the front fender and bodywork would be greatly appreciated! |

My Sharkskinz front fender does not use those mounting points... see attached pic. Stock on left, Sharkskinz on right.

I run the brace. I guess I'm not going fast enough.

You are correct.
I think what is getting confusing is when I am talking about a fork brace I usually think of a real fork brace not that fender bracket. That bracket is huge and Kawi may have intended it as a kind of "fork brace" but it is not strong enough to affect much at race speed. |

you guys are confusing me. at what point are you getting chatter? fork braces on standard forks are supposed to help keep the fork lowers from twisting around the uppers and twisting the wheel, right? that doesn't seem to me like it effects braking much, considering the front stays rather calm in terms of sway movement under hard braking until it starts locking from too much brake... now if you are talking about twisting on turn in when trail braking, i could understand that being helped by a fork brace. the force of braking is on one side of the tire... could cause it to twist a little bit... or if you are heavy on the bars with your turn in... a fork brace would definitely help keep that from happening (excess twisting of the wheel compared to the bars). though, when this is all happening, the forks are compressed, so a fork brace is almost completely useless... what effect the front wheel twisting a little bit has on handling or performance... i almost want to say it has none outside of wear on the forks... if someone can explain otherwise please by all means... i mean, yes the bars will twist more than they "should" when its flexing like that. but that seems like the only difference? doesn't really effect handling...

I sat on the bike after it had been sitting all winter and thought I was getting chatter at a stand-still until a couple of Akima's angry friends came out of the fairings and started harassing me.
