[RideApart] - 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R Ultimate ADV Bike

2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R Ultimate ADV Bike

The 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R was intended to be the weapon of choice for adventure touring riders who like to take the road less travelled. Especially when it’s more of a trail, or path and all your buddies try to talk you out of it. KTM has long been the leader in big bore ADV bikes with OHV chops so it should come as no surprise that they’ve chose to build a smaller ADV option like the 1090 Adventure R.

At the heart of this bad boy is of course, the 125 horsepower fuel-injected LC-8 V-Twin with ride-by-wire throttle, a slipper clutch and chrome-molly steel trellis frame. Of course it has fully adjustable WP suspension and it will roll on a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel shod in Continental TKC 80 rubber too. The Keihin engine management system tis everything together with the electronics package that includes ABS with an off-road specific mode, Four-Mode Traction Control (MTC) and Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC). Combine these rider assist systems with an adjustable bars, pegs and windscreen and you have a bike that is both all day comfortable and OHV capable.

The 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R features an innovative solution to cooling th LED headlimaps. The center gap is the heat sink!As with the off road focused R-series Adventure bikes the 1090 has a nice set of crash bars and a skid plate to go along with the rest of its dirt ready digs. KTM claims it will tip the scales at just over 470lbs without gas, which would bring the total to 510lbs with all 6.1 gallons squeezed into the tank. That’s great for an extended touring range but should be fun in the rocks!

Highly developed 125 HP LC8 V-Twin with dual-plug ignition, cutting-edge Keihin engine management, electronic fuel injection, Ride-by-Wire technology and slipper clutch.
Off road ABS mode allows for dirt-specific ABS application on the front wheel while disengaging the rear ABS for brake slides and total control in the dirt.
Fully adjustable WP PDS (Progressive Damping System) rear monoshock for greater control and bottoming resistance.More from RideApart:
