how to time ex250 engine

I have looked everywhere on how to time my 01 ex250. I can't find any information and I'm sorry if I have overlooked it here. A head gasket blown on me and this is my final step towards completion. A link or any help is very much appreciated, thanks.

No. 2 cylinder on t.d.c., align the inlet cam timing mark with the top surface of the head, align the exhaust cam timing mark with the top surface of the head and you should be good.
Tried to link a pic from photobucket, but it is being a pain again and won't link. Can't seem to link from my computer either, but I am sure you get the idea with the info.

Hopefully this image worked, Jiggles, I feel your pain with photobucket.

Awesome that is exactly what I needed. And I'm guessing cylinder number 2 is on the right side(from sitting on the bike). So turn the flywheel until piston reaches the top correct?

Yes, no.2 is the right hand side. If you look through the inspection hole on the left side cover, you should see the mark 2T lined up with the mark on the cover.
If you don't have the service manual, I recommend getting a copy, should be able to find a free download with a google search.

Piston reaches top and 2T mark shows twice during one turn of the camshaft, so the cams' relative position shown in the diagram applies to only one of those.

The marks for 2T are on the flywheel? Are there good way to pry to turn it? So no worries of being 180 off when 2T is line up with a mark on the cover. I have tried to download manuals, but it tries to charge me.

I use a socket to turn the shaft clockwise (while facing left side of bike).

As long as it reads 2T you're fine. It should have a white line on it....

Remove the large plastic cap on the side of the left side cover, you can turn the engine over using a 14mm socket on an extension bar. When tyou have the 2T mark lined up with the notch in the inspection window you can set the camshafts in their correct position.
You really should get a hold of the service manual, Don't just look for Ninja 250, but also look for GPX 250 as it is known to the rest of the world. I could send you a copy, but it is about 34mb. from memory, too big for email.

How's your battery charge?

Does the engine crank at all?

More details please....

Did you give it enough cranks to let fuel fill the carbs?

Took the spark plug out and wheeled the engine over, and the piston is throwing out water still after replacing the head gasket, so I guess I have a warped head on my hands...
