Aluminium Triple clamp

Hi

I have been eyeing on this clamp for quite some time. all i can find is made from China / Taiwan. It looks good, and supposedly as strong as standard item. My goal is to make the bike lighter, mine have 146KG measured after race with about 3litres of fuel.

Have anyone have experience on this clamp?

Nope. I've seen ten around for other bikes as well. Try googling it for other bikes and see the reviews.

It's just a top clamp, I think they sell on eBay.

The stem is the part that weights the most. A guy I know had a shop make one out of aluminum for him. Stock one weights a ton!

i would not trust an aluminum stem. nor would i ever use aluminum triple clamps. you're asking to destroy them on anything but a perfectly smooth track.

Elongation at Break 17 % 17 % AA; Typical; 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) Diameter
Modulus of Elasticity 68.9 GPa 10000 ksi AA; Typical; Average of tension and compression. Compression modulus is about 2% greater than tensile modulus.
Notched Tensile Strength 324 MPa 47000 psi 2.5 cm width x 0.16 cm thick side-notched specimen, Kt = 17.
Ultimate Bearing Strength 607 MPa 88000 psi Edge distance/pin diameter = 2.0

Poisson's Ratio 0.33 0.33 Estimated from trends in similar Al alloys.

Hardness, Knoop (Converted from Brinell hardness) 129 129
Hardness, Rockwell B(Converted from Brinell hardness) 64 64
Hardness, Vickers (Converted from Brinell hardness) 115 115
Tensile Strength, Ultimate 394.72 MPa 57249 psi
Tensile Strength, Yield 294.74 MPa 42748 psi
Elongation at Break (in 50 mm) 36.5 % 36.5 %
Reduction of Area 66.0 % 66.0 %
Modulus of Elasticity (Typical for steel) 200 GPa 29000 ksi

Poissons Ratio 0.290 0.290
Izod Impact 125 J 92.2 ft-lb
Shear Modulus (Typical for steel) 80.0 GPa 11600 ksi

look at the elasticity modulus for steel vs aluminum... steel is about 3 times more "springy" than aluminum. ultimate tensile strength is typically around 60ksi as well compared to aluminum which is typically around 40ksi. yield ksi is around the same, but what that means is that a hit that would normally make your stock triple simply flex, will in fact bend an aluminum triple. the aluminum triple will "permanently" bend much sooner. how hard of a bump it takes to make 60ksi is another story though. the other big difference is the amount of deformation it can take before it actually breaks. aluminum is about 10%... soft steel is around 30%. that is a massive difference. that's the difference between hitting something on the road bending your front end and hitting something on the road ripping your front end completely off.

What do you think your triple is currently made of?

And I never said the stem was made out of 6061.

my triple stem is made from high carbon heat treated steel and is probably rated over 100ksi.

We have an SV650 race bike with an aluminum rear axle that has yet to bend or sheer. I would think the shock to to the axle would be more severe than to the stem, and the stems a lot thicker. This bike also has Titanium upper and lower triples that have proven quite durable.
