except for a quick remark from a user about having purchased an 1156 led bulb, i cant find anything conclusive about the stock license plate bulb. :[

How's this for conclusive:
I have an 1156 socket LED bulb in my license plate illuminator. This is the second replacement of that bulb I've done. The first replacement was with a Sylvania 5007 bulb, which uses the exact same type of socket. Both bulbs fit. Reason I replaced the Sylvania is I installed additional LED plate illuminators and didn't like the yellow of the filament bulb, so replaced it with an 1156 socket LED light instead. The marking on the stock bulb is: R5W Stanley 12V, 37R (E6) 208, Japan 7-Y-9

Not the bulb I purchased, simply remove the old bulb, plug in the new one.
Linked here: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showp...6&postcount=31 SuperbrightLEDs makes (or at least distributes) a pretty wide selection of LED replacement bulbs that don't require any modding to install, in addition to their component LED offerings.
