Possible Ninja 250r Problem?
So I have had my 2012 Ninja 250R for about 2 months, and I am now noticing that it sometimes smokes, generally it is is idling like at a stoplight or something similar. I also will notice a distinct smell of something almost like burning, but I can't exactly tell what. I took off my lower fairings today and had a look, nothing seems to be too out of place, then again I know very little about bikes. So I took a couple of videos, the first being ridden after the rain it could very well just be steam or something, but anyways any opinions would be great it is still under the factory warranty and if possible I would like to avoid taking it in seeing as it is my only means of transportation.

Welcome to the site, Matt.
Have you kept all the fluids at the proper level? Can you see where the smoke comes from?

From what I see on the video it's steam from the radiator, water thrown up by the front wheel onto the exhaust and radiator boiling off and giving a strange smell. If the liquid levels are all OK forget it, antifreeze has a very special smell once you know it you'll never forget it.

Looks like you got a little oil on the right ride your the engine and some dirt in the radiator, producing a little smoke. Wipe the engine to verify that there is/is not oil there and get yourself an fender extender to keep dirt, water and road grime from getting on the engine and radiator (especially if you will ride in the rain a lot and don't clean the engine regularly.
Depending where you ride in the road, you may get a mixture of oil, tranny fluid, water, tar etc splashed back up into the engine. All of that on a hot exhaust or radiator will smoke or steam. |
