Maxton 2011

I am going down to Maxton North Carolina to attempted to break a land speed record. I am trying to go over 103.9mph wothout any fairings.
I am using a 2001 engine in my 2008 bike with a custom made dual exhaust system and the CR Special carbs. To aid in tuning I have the BRT ignition system and a full spread of gears.
This weekend will be the third race of the season . I hope to do well as I am in forth place in the points championship.
June is traditionaly very hot so I will have to sit in the sun for two days with full black leather on .I will loose 5 lb by Sunday

Eric, I'll open my window and listen for the sound barrier to be broken. Any idea what time? It's hot and I rather not have the window open too long.

What??? not using a turbo? I know a great thread showing you how to add a reliable, well researched and tested turbo setup to your bike for less than $1000.

Good luck, Eric. Wish you the best, though it seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to lose 5 pounds.

AThanks. I have shiftee (who happens to have the worlds fastest 250 ninja by .6mph) to jockey for me . Problem is I want to see how fast "I" can go on a 250 ninja. So noe one has ridden the bike but me.Its not that I would mind or anything .It just never came up.

I went through tech today. I am one of the inspectors but not on my own bike. That is fun because I get to meet everyone. This weekend is a small turn out.not many people wanting to deal with the heat.So lots of runs.I want to get some seat time running without fairings. I was supprised how much buffeting there is without a fairing.

Of the bikes out this week .There is a Yamaha 250 four cylinder. One of those 20,000 rpm race bikes. He ran 113mph in April but now he has removed the fairings .So I will be battling for the Modified gas 250/4 record. I LOVE competition and hope he does well. I will be SHOCKED if I better his speed.but I will try my best.It will be cool running head to head,All motor without fairings. The only advantage I have is I can adjust things like gears and jetting and timming. But he has a real engine with 45 hp stock .But will the 20 year old bike have the right jetting and gearing for a 1 mile run in 100 deg heat? We will see.

Brutal day close to 100 deg heat. I started the day at 102 mph then gear changes took it to reecord speed 104.4 on a 103.9 record. Problem was the 250 yamaha ran to 106mph . I did some more work and got to 106.8mph .But he got 110mph . I made at least 7 gear changes and four jet changes .I am out of gears.15/41 is as tall as I have and the engine is running well uop to 13000 rpm. I will try again tomorrow but I can only hope for a tiny little bit more.

I let some one ride my bike as suggested. He is 40 lb lighter than me. But It did not make any difference. I have been perfecting my tuck for three years. So it was good to see that I was at least as clean as a smaller rider.

http://youtu.be/1R8pQRHTm6w

My 250 Ninja is the loudest motorcycle I have ever heard. The final shift to 6th gear is 3/4 of a mile away and the video ends with the bike about a mile away.

It is loud in the vid.
Sorry you didnt get the record but he did have 2 more pistons.
15/41 wasnt tall enough?? REALLY? You must be putting out the HP then. Do they even make a 40 or a 39t rear??

Thats no joke.. your probably CLEANER thru the air.
A 10% weight reduction with all things being equal...SHOULD matter.
Nice job anyway.

the 15/41 is with a 115 70 17 Dunlop slick. It is 23.5 inch tall. So the ratio is not as tall as a Stock tire.

Going back to Maxton tomorrow.
The last race of the 2011 season . The 250 Ninja finished in 6th place in the points championship this year. And managed to set or break 10 land speed records this year so far.
The 250 Ninja is a great bike. I have had very little problems with this bike racing it on the 1/4 mile track .Flailing it on the dyno. And testing it at its top speed.

Not only is this the last race of 2011 .But it is the last race EVER at Maxton. 17 years of land speed racing comes to an end this weekend. It will be a sad day. But everyone is up beat .Because we are going to Ohio for the 2012 season.

I have the bike prepped for top speed. I have re installed the fairings and made a couple critical tuning points. I hope to be putting over 50 hp to the ground. The best I have gone is 121.8 So that is my goal. With the 6 mph head wind I don't think it will happen. We will see.
