I saw this earlier today. This just makes the justification of riding with a video camera that much more important, imo. I wouldn't doubt at all that if the rider wasn't with a video camera, that things would be very different.

wow that cop knew he was in the wrong. if it was really not the cop's fault then he would have gone through all the procedures. i really don't like police officers like that.

The first think I would have said is "call your supervisor". Cop was totally in the wrong and he knew it. That's why the cop threaten to give him tickets. What a loooooooosssssserrr. The cops video would have sank him for following to close and rear ending the bike.

Wow.

What actually happened, in my opinion.

Cop wasn't really paying attention, motorcyclist realized this and did his best to maintain his safety.

Obviously that didn't happen and was got bummed by a cop.

The cop realizes he's in deep **** because not only did he ass end a person, the guy could have been easily killed if the cop was going just a bit faster.

He get's up to the guy, realizes he's now terrified (lot's of stuttering and stuff) and decides that he's so scared as it is, if he comes off as a hard ass and threatens tickets, the rider is going to just want to get the hell out of there without swapping any sort of information.

2 things...

Cop:
Potty mouth and someone pee'd in your Weaties? Following to close or not, no excuse for hitting the bike. Do up a ticket for yourself too.

Rider:
WTF, cop has a point. Had plenty of space an time considering the slow speed. No need to stop abruptly creating another possible unsafe condition for himself.

Should have been a total non event by both parties.

Rider didnt do anything wrong in my eyes. Dude on left was trying to get in. Rider leaves room for guy to get in. Car in front stops so he stops as well to maintain that space.

Right on.

Rider over reacted and braked too hard.

Officer knew he was at fault for hitting something in front of him, and acted improperly because of it. Last I checked, you're responsible for not hitting the cars in front of you, and you're supposed to check for damage and disclose the accident.

"Do you always hit your brakes like that when someone's changing a lane?"

"Yeah I...." *interrupted

"No he wasn't, he was way up there"

Hmmm, expecting a protest about how close the guy was in front of him much?

I would have calmly looked at him and said my neck hurts. Call an ambulance and then fallen over. And then not moved or done anything. Just play dead. It would have been hilarious.

i think the biker did the right thing. the video alone is more than enough to damn the cop into ****-work for the next 5 years if not get him fired or suspended. trying to cause an incident there would have just resulted poorly for him.

+1

That's exactly what i'd have done, no need to exacerbate the situation with a clearly hosile cop using a massive offence as his defence, play it cool, then make several backups of the video and host them overseas and send a dvd to an independent police watchdog commitee.

Yep, I got the drift hd ghost and have been testing it out in my car. This last past weekend, a CHP crossed a double solid line (on a rural-ish road) and was partially in my lane, caught it on tape. Freaked me out a bit because it was over a bridge and I had no where to veer off to (I am always looking for exit points in my car just in case). Luckily, he or she seemed to notice, before it was too late, but it was really close. Had I reached the point earlier and not slowed down when I saw him/her cross, there would have been a hit.

Love how they do that, the guy gets filmed committing a crime, so they give him a paid vacation.

These things should be unpaid leaves, with back pay if they are found innocent of any wrongdoing.
