That is very cool.

I built a model auto gyro from scratch when I flew radio control airplanes. They are very stable have short take off and land in a hover.

I will ride a home made motorcycle at 150 mph. But I would be to afraid to get in that. I love airplanes but hate flying.

Chad do you have a 337?

I don't have a Cessna 337 but fly one at work. I also fly the Cessna 188, Cessna 182 (300hp, 3 blade prop), and Cessna 206. My main job is flying the 337 but I will be getting a checkout on a Piper Aerostar in the spring. I love my job! Its like getting paid to ride my motorcycles

A peculiar approach, indeed.

Never safer than flying, I love it.

I am not afraid to fly. I do the 27 hours to New Zealand every couple years and the flight is the fun part. The airports suck. But I just don't have the passion to fly.

The first plane I ever flew was a Cessna 172. Then a T10 Texan I took for a fun ride once. I got to try knife edge flight.
My boss had a 336 with a big pod.

I'm not sure I'd call it a flying car. Flying motorcycle or scooter maybe. But with no storage that I could see and the fact that you still need to take off... not very practical. I know I know, it's not supposed to be. You're probably supposed to think of it like a sports car, not a family sedan. But still.

Very cool though! 1 step closer to an actual flying car!

The rocket pack app will be OK but don't let it go off in your pocket.

It doesn't have a countering tail-rotor, which I would guess is how most auto-gyro's are designed. When it hovers does it spin unintentionally, or do these thing always move forward when in flight? It has proportionally larger fins than a helicopter.

There is a small reactive torque that is compensated by the tail and the airstream from the propeller.
The rotor acts just like a regular wing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogyro

"An autogyro (from Spanish autogiro), also known as gyroplane, gyrocopter, or rotaplane, is a type of rotorcraft which uses an unpowered rotor in autorotation to develop lift, and an engine-powered propeller, similar to that of a fixed-wing aircraft, to provide thrust. While similar to a helicopter rotor in appearance, the autogyro's rotor must have air flowing through the rotor disc to generate rotation."
