i have like 7 bikes with carburetors, including several two strokes... i can say: i understand.
two strokes especially are useless until warm. revving up half way in small spurts gets things moving well without putting a bunch of stress on everything. my four stroke "warm up" proceedure goes... start... rev to 4 k until it maintains it... idle for a second then blip to 6K... if it revs correctly its ready to go. if it doesn't, rev back to 4 k for a few seconds. carbs get gummy. floats stick. petcocks don't open up right away. and yes i rev my engine before the light turns green also. i do it because it makes the bike ready to respond faster. its those idiots with direct fuel injected 4 bangers redlining for no reason that you need to make fun of.

A lot of people have trouble telling them apart. Which one of these did you ride again? Ok, its a trick question. Its: Harley Fat Boy Yamaha VStar Kawasaki Vulcan Note how the Harley and the Vulcan seem to have eliminated the need for a kickstand.

This is a funny thread. Sure there are many douchebag Harley riders that South Park perfectly profiled in the Fags episode. But lets be real, there are just as many sportbikers who think they are equally cool. I've seen tons of sportbikers, in person and on YouTube, who think they're soo sick because they can rev a SS and know how to do a burnout. Not to mention all the sportbike squidwards who ride shirtless with board shorts and sandals.

I test rode a Vulcan 900. Not a bad bike at all. Fairly comfortable once you relax and really sit in the bike, rather than on top of it like a sport bike. Tons of torque, smooth, easy to ride. It just didn't lean for beans, and never really felt peppy. It felt like a freight train when I rolled on, but never really took off like the ninjette in the power band coming out of a 3rd gear corner.
I'd consider riding a cruiser-style bike if I ever move somewhere flat and just want to commute or cruise or whatever. That Vulcan was a pretty nice bike. I'd go for a standard bike first though, like the Honda CB500 naked version, or the Yamaha FZ8. I won't bag on the Harley itself, but I will bag on the image that some motorcyclists present (regardless of brand/style) |

Cruisers have their place. Mostly they are good for show (for people that like looking at them) and for transportation. Just not a lot of sporty fun that I can see. But if you ever want to ride 2up, then the cruiser is the way to go.
When I bought my first Ninja 250, I asked the guy I bought it from why he was selling it. He said it was too sluggish and hard to handle with his wife on the back. I asked how much he weighed? He said 250#. And the wife? He said 300#. A cruiser is already sluggish and hard to handle so he wouldn't have noticed a difference. He ended up buying a Ninja 650. He said its still sporty and easy to handle with the extra load.

Ever think it might be the bucket you wear for a helmet? I wouldn't wave to you either. You look like that moron on Top Gear!

Ahh man...I ran headers on the 250 once...must have been what I was like. It was loud!
It is always a kick in the pants to ride something loud! Fast is better though...

I've run my Muzzy open header at one point just to see what it sounds like. Kinda annoying and shallow sounding. Not my favorite sound.

I rode Summit Point with an open Bassani on a 1982 GS1000S (Katana). It didn't bother me but the guy trying to pass me the entire race not only couldn't hear by the end of the race, he had a head for hours. No wonder he was trying to pass me.
