Spark Plugs....

Looking for info on changing spark plugs, maybe even a DIY. I've seen the YouTube videos where people have changed them out with the factory that comes with bike tool kit, however, I bought my Ninja second hand, so no tool kit or special tool....Anyone ever done this, specifically with gas tank removed? I have regular 'automotive' spark plug sockets with the rubber grommets. If I remove tank, will I be able to reach plugs with socket, extension and ratchet?

Thanks~

And yes I bought NGK Iridium...

it could work, as long as your extension is not to long or not to short you have a chance. Takes 10 minutes to get the tank off, give it a go. or just look to buy a tool of ebay or something.

Not worried about removing tank. Just haven't tackled this job yet, and wasn't sure if it was possible. Didn't want to start removing parts on a wild goose chase...haven't seen anything like this on forums lately. Thanks.

It's easily accessible if you take the tank off. If you have the spark plug socket with the universal joint that comes in the OEM toolkit, all you have to do is remove the clutch side side cover and fairing.

Since I've sold my bikes, I can sell you my OEM toolkit at a cheap price, I'll pay for shipping.

I usually use 3/8 ratchet with a 2.5"-3" stubby extension and spark plug socket.

but yes to the OP, you can absolutely change the plugs from the top with the tank off, a long socket will fit right down between the frame tubes and bingo

Finally got time to do this. Surprisingly easy. Plugs were not white as I expected, but not dark and burnt. Nice brown, consistent. I have airbox removed, K&N pod, jetted carbs with needles shimmed, aftermarket Jardine slip on. Bike was relatively dialed in, no issues, no backfires or pops. Just ride about 10 miles with new iridium plugs, and it seems more consistent of an idle, better startup with no choke, and throttle response smooth. Certainly worth $8.
