Are bikes supposed to be girls or boys? Or does it matter? Or does it depend on the rider? I had an argument with a guy who said all vehicles, bikes included are female.

What? Well, that just blows goats! I want my bike to be a boy bike. I want to ride a boy not a girl. Does it really matter? Then he was saying that my bike was gonna have an identity crisis.... wtf? I'm sure he was just kidding.

I'm thinking I'm gonna call my bike, "Jack" Don't know why. Just really like saying, "Jack" It will be Jack until I can come up with something more snazzy and creative. I'll give it a few names for whatever I'm in the mood for that day. I'll probably call it 'baby' too.

I have had boy cars and girl cars. Just depends on what I see when I look at him/her. My car is a little black Hyundai Accent that I named Muffy, and everyone says the name is perfect.

It varies with the language. In German and English, Motorcycle is neuter. In French, it is feminine.

I believe it is up to the owner of the bike to decide, though most seem to go for female... I now have to watch what I call my bike (Holly) when around my girlfriend sigh...

I called mine Itoshii which means 'lovely' in Japanese.

I have the habit of naming other things too... my car is Gemini, iPhone is Nyan, each hard drive on my computer (yes I have several) has a distinct name like Asobi or Hoshi... don't ask me why...

Nani,

Just wondering. "A frog in a well can not see the ocean"..... does this mean to imply that one who is enclosed by one's own opinion can't begin to understand reality or the bigger picture?

Yep pretty much. It's one of those 'sayings' that applies to everything from food to opinions, etc. and serves as a reminder that we're a little speck in this huge planet, not to mention universe!!

Using myself as an example, I am from Puerto Rico (little island in the Caribbean) and some of my friends tried to deter me from moving to the US. To me they're like those froggies in wells, choosing to stay enclosed as opposed to going "out there" and discovering what the world (ocean) has to offer.

LOL! I'll keep that in mind, but I'm a bit ADD so might not be good at Mushin. Seriously speaking though, isn't that zen-like state of mind similar to when you ride a motorcycle?

I was calling my 250 ninjette for awhile. But I rode her over to my old roommates house and hung with my buddies. Long story short, one of my friends is a japanese major and he was teasing me about my kunoichi. and that name kinda stuck. but i westernized it down to kuno for relaxed conversation.
and yea, shes a girl. when no ones looking at a red light I like to goose her, then pat her on the tank...i think i'll stop there before it starts to sound weird and perverted

I'm a major nerd, so my bike's name has a story behind it. Her original name was Furiaisu Enzeru (Free-Ice Angel) because the CP blue + silver flame kinda reminded me of a moving glacier. That name, however, takes FAR too long to say, so, with my family's prodding, I shortened it to Fury. Sorta switched languages I know, but I'm not even sure if I did the first one right in Japanese anyway, and fury fits.

After reading some of these posts I'm happy...

I'm not the only one giving motorcycles Japanese names.

well it is a ninja
so it sorta makes sense to give it names from it's native language.
sometimes I wonder when I talk to my bike in english and she doesnt do what I want, its because she doesnt understand english...

My bike didn't have a name, but after reading this thread I think I need to give it one. In keeping with the japanese name theme, I hereby christen thee Amagaeru, which according to an internet site I found means tree frog.
