Power question, powerlet 12v to mini-usb power.

So I got the Powerlet 12v battery to mini-usb cable.

First off the cable is excellent quality, comes with shrink wrap and cable ties, has a fuse inline already. Also includes an extension cable that makes the usb connection at a right angle and that right angle cable has some trickery in it to make it work with some odd Garmin Nuvi sat navs.

So my plan is to route the cable up to the boot to power my GPS/GSM tracker so I don't have to keep removing it and charging it, I'd hate if my bike was stolen and I sent it a text only to find out the tracker is sitting in my front room being charge and the bike is in location unknown!

Anyway I know the max draw of usb is like 500 milli amps, can anyone give me any-idea what impact such a device would have on the motorbike battery? It will probably use far less than 500 if I remove the battery from the device so its not trying to charge up, just keeping the mobile/cell phone circuit on, and occasionally scanning for a GPS position, it has no screen or anything else that takes power. One small LED that blinks once every 7.5 seconds when its on thats its.

That's .5 amps. which I think is small enough to ignore if your ride every few days or once a week. A charger is not 100% efficient and will draw a little more but I'd be concerned with the ones that have an always-on light. Also, many devices will draw more than USB spec allows. Watch for that. IIRC, the iPad is 4A (8xUSB spec). I specifically hunted for a 1A "quick charger" for my iPhone 3G because that is what the wall charger supplies. I found one from Belkin with a 1A (1,000mA) "RapidCharge" port and a standard .5A port.
