How much longer could this have lasted?

I replaced both throttle cables.. I made a post here about the throttle feeling weird and finding the closing cable on its last leg..

replaced them both today (lubed them both first) and the bike feels brand new again..

But I had to take a pic before I trashed it..

I did remove just the closing cable and the throttle did indeed snap back just fine.. so that cable really is more of a legal liability cable than a functionally necessary part.

lol.. could have lasted another year.. could have snapped on the next throttle up..

hope you greased the end of the cable with a glob of grease when you reassembled it.

that cable looks pitiful.

Yeah it is awful, aint it? lol

The bike is 10 years old.. and it sat for almost 5 years before I bought it and brought it back to its former glory.. when I bought it the throttle was sticking horribly.. took quite a few cable lubings to get it working decent.. I've put about 1000 miles on it since then and I guess it was just on its way out from the sitting around and getting brittle. Like I said.. the bike feels great now.. throttle is so smooth. BUT.. nothing stops the green bikes.. we know that.

Dunno if you have, but if the throttle cable looks like that, definitely worth a gander at the rest of them (brakes, clutch, etc). Glad you caught it in time though!
