I had an '05 FZ6 for my first bike and loved it. Fell in love with the look when I used to travel to Spain; they were very popular back then.

Rode cross country on it, and it was a great commuter, except for pulling away from lights. Gotta rev that crap out of it. But that made the back roads more fun. You may not be going any faster, but it's noisier and buzzier and sounds like you're flogging it good!

The worse part was the suspension, on my Iron I swapped out the front springs for Progressive and played with oil levels and oil weight to try to help it out a bit, for the rear I put on HD touring air shocks which helped out a good bit. Even with a good number of mods this is a solo riding bike. A friend of mine has an XR and loves it, including the suspension. If you have any XR specific questions I can ask him for ya. Good thing is you can demo the Harley's, bad thing is the cost. Anyway, here are a couple of pics of my Iron... was going for the old school look...

Stay with kawasaki and get a 10R, I busted 100 in first before shi**ing myself and u-turning back to my dealer buddy.

Hmm... my next bike.. One's I've considered are the Ninja 500, GS500, Katana 600, Ninja 650, Versys. Like most people, I don't need a huge powerful bike and I've got to keep the expenses down too.
For me the first 3 Ninja 500, GS500, and the Katana 600 are "only" twice (ouch!) what I'm paying now for insurance (State Farm just goes by engine size). They are also fairly old technology with only the GS500 still being produced (as far as I know) and only the Ninja 500 is water cooled.
While I'd really like to get a Versys, the Ninja 650 series is quite a bit more expensive on insurance.
However, at 61k miles my bike is still running fine atm (knock on wood) so it may be a while before having/needing to upgrade.

Either an 09 versys or an 09 fz6r. I can't do a supersport as I want to commute on it and take trips.

I am keeping my 250 as well so for that reason the versys is taking the lead.

This is at the top of the list is an SV650SF (ABS), and should arrive in April.
If not that, then a GSX650F, Ninja 650r, or FZ6R.

When they redesign the CBR600RR that will most likely be my next bike. However, if they make the tank on the Yamaha R6 narrower that will most likely be my next bike. =P

Here is one that I found, but was priced just a tad bit too high. I like the other 650s, but I don't like the banana seat. I have also found some older ZZR600s that I like.

Bored & stroked 'busa, extended chromed swingarm, NOS system, underneath running lights, loudest exhaust system possible (if any), remove the top end limiter, power commander, widest possible rear tire. Or maybe restore an older bike.

Greg, you wanna buy my Busa? It's already done up for you. Good thing you don't have to wear helmets on the island. I love the sound of that exhaust note blasting in my ears.

The Versys is a very close #2 on my list...If I come across a green Versys before I find a nice FZ6, and the price is right ...

I don't have a strong desire to get another moto per se, but I would like to see an electric moto that is under 350 lb., capable of triple digit speed, have 60 miles range per charge and 1 hour re-charge time thru regular wall socket.

Something that take on the shape of the BMW C1 scooter with a roof and lots of storage room would be great.

I think $2,500 for my ninja is fair game? 2008, black, 15k miles, clean title, been dropped, HID light, recent oil change, Runs good. Listing for $2600-2700 elsewhere.
I would do it, it looks like a good deal for you to sale and buy...

If it's anything like around my area, posting one for $2800-$3000 sells within a few days. I made an offer to a guy who posted his for sale yesterday, he sold the bike literally 3-5 hours after he posted the craigslist ad and that was for $3200 (like-new condition). If you post the bike for $2700 or so you can probably sell it fast, have enough $$$ to buy the 650r and an extra $200 to pay for registration/tags/title, just one option.

I think before you go running off and selling your bike, you should get a firm commitment price from the guy selling the 650R. Many times people will say things in passing and not realize how much the bike is really worth, if he were really serious about selling it. Just trying to avoid you ending up with no bike.

Agreed. If he isn't in a rush as you mentioned, what's to keep him from holding on longer? The issue would be that when he sells his bike, he will be stuck bikeless. This may cause him to hold on longer until he finds another bike at a decent bike. It sounds great, but I wouldn't rush into it unless you are prepared to go elsewhere and possibly add a few more $$$s.

For me...I just picked up an 09 Versys in Blue; still in the crate and sold the 250. Let the Farkles begin. AND, I wish KKim would get one so I can continue to have such a great source of information and knowledge with this bike.

What's it like to ride your Versey vs your 250??? What kind of mpg are you getting??? How's the fill on the highway??? Can you do a small post??? I think it would help a lot off us on our next bike...

I honestly have about 55 miles on it so far...to cold up here in NY by Lake Ontario. I had to wear my snowmobile bibs and jacket when I did ride it.

I like the throttle response and height of the bike. It is of course a bit heavier (top heavy) and that I notice as soon as I try moving it around in the garage. Checking the oil sight glass is more of a challenge.

I joined the Versys forum (KawasakiVersys.com)and the general consensus is that the stock windshield does a poor job of protecting you from buffeting. I'm shopping for a new one. There are a few guys in Dallas area on that forum too. Keep your eyes peeled for a V in your town...ask them what they think.

Most find the seat uncomfortable; much like the 250. There are seat mods they do or some buy aftermarket.

The mirrors are useless without extenders added to their bases or replaced entirely.

Fuel injection is nice to have and most seem to get 45-50mpg which is pretty good compared to the ninja.

I heard a ton of great reports on this bike and thought about getting one in 08 when I was waiting for my ninja to cross the Pacific. 3yrs. later and I pulled the trigger.

Guys love this bike and how it handles. I will be commuting mostly but want to take some weekend trips. We are suppose to get into the 40's today. May get some riding in after work.

Good Luck.
