DIY: Cam Chain tensioner rebuild

Not sure why you are concerned about it. You've got bigger problems. The cam chain tensioner will be fixed when the engine is rebuilt as well as any other internal issue.
Hey da blue, do you think i can reset the cct by only unscrewing the middle 10 mm bolt and not remove the whole thing.

You can, but it may not fix anything if you've got some broken or missing teeth or the chain has jumped some teeth on the cam. Your best bet is to take off the head, (at the very least the valve cover) and inspect what's going on inside.

Shouldn't at least have a good chance of fixing the ticking noise by reseting the cct?

The engine will be another problem that i am consulting with a mechanic.

why is it that people always show how to reset the cct by removing the whole thing?

I concur with the other motor physicians, your motor is toast. There are lots on motors available on Ebay for about $500. They will ship it to your house for another $100 or so. It will take about 3 hours to swap out if you work fast, about 6 if you work slow. Use a torque wrench when bolting everything together. Make sure you fill the new motor with fresh 10W40 rated oil, I recommend Castrol GTX then change your oil every 1000 miles (oil filter every 3000).

Also go into your garage and take all the Seafoam and throw it in the trash. Never use that stuff again especially in a running motor. My guess is that is where your problem started and this is also causing the rust inside your motor. Seafoam will dissolve oil and will immediately deteriorate the viscosity and lubricating properties of your engine oil. That 150 or so miles with the seafoam in it is what killed it in my opinion and I am guessing bearings, both crank and cams.

I have to say I feel your pain here, it sucks when a motor blows up, I have blown up a few in my life as well, definitely a problem that will leave a bad taste in your mouth for a few weeks..beer helps.

Hey. I'm having the very same problem now but I don't want to rush for a new motor just yet. Did you find a solution?

^^^ THIS. Yeah that motor is toast. Regardless of what else MIGHT be going on, you had very large metal chunks floating in your high performance engine for a large number of miles. It's done- most likely you have scored cylinder walls, compression will never be the same. Time to bite the bullet and replace. Beer does help...

Ha, I suspect in the 3-1/2 years since ubxssangz first posted about his problem, he's found one solution or another.

Yeah, I was mostly answering because of this guys post. If he ALSO had large chunks of metal in his engine, I would hope he wouldn't go off trying to adjust his cam chain tensioner hoping to make the problem go away.
