I agree, I've seen that before and want to say it was here. However, the vid you have, and the original aren't listed in the search.

*goes off to look*

The original, BTW, is here: http://youtu.be/_b3T7u4ZJ1Y

Search fail, ah well. All I found was the original newsbot post: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=208914

that video played like an 8 minute advertisement for headlight modulators...

every single thing the biker told the kid to remember to do or to change about his driving habits was an absolute waste of time.

People drive the way they do because they're human, they just can't do any better. And they're speaking the absolute truth when they tell the police officer (who's standing over your corpse) "I didn't see him, he came out of nowhere".

It's not about how drivers should behave after they see a motorcycle, because in a lot of cases that's leaving it too late (i.e. the officer standing over your corpse).

So the fact that the biker told the kid to acknowledge the fact that it's harder to judge the speed of a motorcycle than a car and that he should take that into consideration when pulling in front of a biker... that's a waste time of time?

Right...

Ignoring the tautology for a second (people: because: human), by your reasoning, there's no point taking the MSF, or any kind of training course... because bikers are human... and they can't do any better.

There's actually plenty of evidence to show that people who take driver training courses are more likely to be safer drivers than those who don't.

Shut-down the schools and close up the R&D centres people! We can't do any better!

Sorry dude. It is about that. How a driver behaves before and after seeing a biker is important.

Yes, that's what I meant. That part of the video was pedantic nonsense. What are you trying to say, that this kid who is obviously old enough to have been driving for several years isn't intelligent enough to judge closure rates?

And during what part of this video's setup scene did you see the kid doing anything like taking closure rates into consideration before initiating the turn? He didn't see the motorcycle at all, that's what I'm talking about: the fact that more often than today's distracted, "multitasking" drivers don't see motorcycles.

The reason they don't see motorcycles is that they're unconsciously using visual cue criteria, that exist within the human psyche at an instinctive/innate level, to evaluate for danger or threats.

Thanks for cramming your very poorly thought out analogy into my mouth.

How can you post this response to that sentence? You quoted it then willfully ignored it so you could make a smug reply. Wow.

1. The fact he's old enough to have been driving for several years doesn't mean he has been driving for several years.
2. Who cares even if he has been driving for several years and is "intelligent enough to judge closure rates": he's an actor. The message is targeted at us: the viewer. Some of the viewers may not have been driving for more than a couple of weeks.
3. Intelligent people do make mistakes and do lack information all the time. This video has clearly been created to put some basic useful info out there for cagers so those of them that don't know or just haven't thought hard about it can be exposed to it. It's particularly nice to see that the biker in the video put it out there that you should leave extra space behind bikers.
4. If that part of the video is "nonsense" how can it also be completely obvious information that someone who has been driving for "several years" would know? Can't be both.

LMAO. What part of the video did you see the kid doing anything like tail gating a biker?. Oh wait; he didn't do that either in the crash scene. The biker was clearly giving the driver general advice - advice that extended beyond the SMIDSY crash that the pair of them were involved in.

I was going to reply to the other stuff you wrote, but I don't think it's worth it. I don't think you're very good at critical thinking.

Please stop spreading BS.

the biker dude is like 'when you're driving around bikes...'

but most people don't KNOW there are any bikes around. that's the whole problem to begin with. so... ALWAYS look twice, not only when you think there are bikes around...

I haven't driven cars much at all before this winter. Since getting this car I've been so~ paranoid about hitting a biker. I almost feel like I don't trust my vision now. Before pulling out of a junction I find myself looking down the big empty road trying to spot some kind of invisible biker who I know is going to materialize the second I move out.

I never used to be like this before I got my little ninja. I pretty much didn't think about bikers on the road at all. I'm glad I got a bike, if for nothing else, so that I was made more aware of bikers. If I ended up being one of those people who pulled out in front of someone on a bike and maimed or killed them I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
