Finally Crashed...

Yes...I did. I low sided coming around a corner...I was wearing my gear except for a pair of pants...as a result I hurt my butt and scraped my left knee. My boots did their job, but my right ankle still hurts. I'd imagine the damage would be much worse had I not been wearing them, I might even be in the hospital right now. I rode her home, after a fireman that was passing by helped me pick her up WEAR YOUR GEAR AND WEAR A CAMERA

I can blame a lack of skill and a lapse in concentration...flashing back, I remember fiddling with my turn signal switch, that may have threw my concentration off enough. Although the actual cause was probably throttle control and poor body position. I believe I was crossed up, its a hard habit to get out of...

Nice video Cold tire? That wet oil looking spot you ran over? that road looks as slick as ice. Glad to see you made it out with just a few scrapes.

Nick, how long had you been riding that day? Body positioning shouldn't even come in to play on streets

@Jiggles Sorry, I'm not a pro crasher like you, you've made it an art

I think that was a shadow? I assure you the road was very dry where the crash occurred.

Right when I make a post questioning whether or not I should get riding pants, I see this.

I mean the scrapes aren't that bad, but still ow it could have been worse.

Reason I don't have any is because I bought some, never got them (they were lost during shipping). So I never got around to buying some, plus they're a pain in the butt (like I'm experiencing right now haha) to carry. I'm sure the pants would help the scrape, but not much for my butt, which feels like I got a shot in lmao

No, I don't think there was front brake involved. I remember leaning over, thinking something was wrong, and I thought I was too low, then I may have blinked, because then I saw asphalt, and my arms, and I remember getting up and saying the word f*** a little too much haha.

isn't there a dirt road entrance on the right, in the middle of the turn? might have hit some small gravel/dirt. First thing I noticed...

Crash was simple loss of traction on slow corner, due to many factors like hard tires(old), cold tires(your were most likely still cool), very minimal dust in corner. This same thing happens to me all the time in slow corners like this when I'm on an old used tire(something found in the corner of the shop and mounted to get me by a few days) or even a new tire at the end of its wear. I just have a better feel for when it start to go so I have a been chance to react sooner and save it.

Reason you didn't save it was a slow reactions time and most likely a to centralized seating position. I find myself while just commuting on the city streets I'll sit like your typical GS1200 rider right in the middle and only move my upper body a little. Then I'll make a tight right turn through an intersection just a bit fast and feel a sudden lack of comfort because if I were to git some dirt in that position I doubt my body could respond fast enough to save it.

It's like playing dodge ball and position #1 is you standing strait up with your feet 8" apart and knees locked, #2 is you in a slightly more relaxed feet 18" apart with knee bent a little and all your weight on the balls of your feet, #3 is you very low feet 30" apart with weight on your toes like playing foot ball and your ready for the snap. Proper aggressive street riding(what your video showed) would require #2 in order for you to be prepared for surprises. You on the other hand may have been riding more like a #1 so when that ball came flying your way it took you to long to bend your knees, transfer that weight to your toes, lift that inside foot and push of with your outside foot to avoid so you got beaned in the face. #3 is what you'd use on the track because it requires a certain amount of mid corner G-force to keep you on the bike or else your likely fall off to the inside of the bike when tire lose traction and your outside foot slips.

It's hard to tell much of anything important from just a first person video so I'm assuming a lot but I think I covered several of the variables. Let me know what you think. Also glad you weren't or the bike heavily damage like that same indecent on our local mt roads where you bike would have been 50-200' down the mt. instead of some soft grass

That sucks, hopefully the bike makes a speedy recovery and it seems you escaped with minimal damage.

I didn't get to watch with sound as I am at work so I don't know what you were doing with the throttle but looks like what others have said, just loss of traction, prob cold tire didn't help. But potentially some body position and throttle input played a key role as well.

Live and learn.

Topic title "Finally crashed" doesn't seem like you put much confidence in your riding or makes it sound like a way of life, that everyone has to crash otherwise you are not normal.

just sayin

get back on that horse and don't "finally crash" a second time

I agree with this, your front tire did skid as soon as it hit this spot.

Maybe Diesel spill?
That is very common on sharp turns.

Looks like a fairly residential area, perhaps even a "neighborhood." I'm not sure what the point was of speeding through it like it's the Isle of Man TT...

Anyways, good thing you're alright, and was there any notable damage to the bike?

Rashed fairings. Front fender might be bent or the forks are damaged. I was speeding because those three turns are fun...

While I don't necessarily agree with speeding in residential areas, that street does look pretty fun ...if you're okay with your neighbors hating you lol
