Need help choosing my first motorcycle jacket

Hi, I'll currently in the process of buying a motorcycle (ninja 250r) and I was looking at some gear for the same. I'm located in India and I want to buy a jacket off ebay... I'm getting some good deals on the following jackets :-

1) Icon hooligan
2) Icon Merc
3) Alpinestar T-stunt Air flo
4) Alpinestar Sniper Air flo

There are some more, but brand wise it's either Icon or Alpinestar... What I am confused about is medium or large... I've seen the reviews in STG and the guy is 5'11" 200lbs and wears a large... I'm 5'8" at approx 155lbs... Should I buy a Small or Medium? I had the opportunity to try a small icon jacket locally and it didn't fit very well... Will the case be the same for the alpine star jackets? I've read that alpine star is generally longer on the arms than Icon...

As you can see I'm totally confused... lol

I'm new to riding myself and only ever had the one set of gear... but the Icon Hooligan looks the coolest.

go to a store that sells those jackets and try on as many jackets as you can.

you need to be comfortable.

you cannot concentrate on riding if you are to busy adjusting your gloves, helmet, jacket etc.

it distracts you as much as texting while driving.

you could miss that pot hole, crack, car, pedestrian etc. stack it big time.
no need for that sweet cool looking jacket while you are in hospital or in jail on manslaughter or worse

just saying

Talking Icon Merc Jacket Red Size Medium

Just picked up this jacket for a princely sum of 60$ + 15$ S&H... Was it a steal, or was it a steal?

It's cool and all...

When you get it put it on and see if you can grab a fistful of leather. If you can, you need to size down.

For me the biggest issue tends to be sleeve length, as I have longish arms... I tried on an icon med jacket the other day, and while the jacket was of the correct size, the sleeves still felt slightly short... I don't think the elbow armour was spot on...

I had that problem too. Also the icon jackets seemed too short for me.

Not too much gear out there for taller slim guys.

Icon jackets were too short for me, and I'm 5'7" 140 pounds. I currently wear a 48 A* leather jacket and it fits quite well. I also have a long torso for my height, and the length is fine.

It's pointless ordering a jacket online & hoping it'll fit. try on as many as possible & if you can, get onto your bike with it.

My usual shop has no problem letting me hop onto my bike with the gear on to see if it fits me, but I've been a regular customer for years. The biggest shop in Dublin didn't, but they had no problem with letting me hop onto one of their Ninja 250s on the shop floor when I asked

You want the armour to fit on your elbows & shoulders and the sleeves not to interfere with your gloves.

Icon Overlord textile in medium fit me perfectly. I'm 5'08, 153lbs, 32" waist, 39" chest, 15.5" neck, with 32" sleeve length.
With Euro sizing i'm at 50.

My exact measurements came about on not being pleased with the fitment of button down dress shirts so I went to a tailor and had them modified. With any process of modification exact measurements were taken by a seamstress and clothing modified accordingly.

Best option for sizing is knowing exact body measurements.
