Plastic chain guard / cover

Who uses it? I'm debating not using mine.

I really don't think that this flimsy piece of plastic will stop the chain from doing damage if the chain flies off.

Only trouble I see is maybe riding with a passenger, the passengers foot will be pretty close to the chain. Or if one was to go down and have the bike lay on you...

Also chain lube will be everywhere...

I'm sure even the flimsy plastic would be better than nothing...But my pregen doesn't have one on there and it hasn't been an issue riding 2-up yet. I like the way it looks better without it. The pregen guards are pretty ugly..

Take a look at the underside of the chain cover. Clearly it's purpose is to stop all that chain gunk from getting flung on your leg. I'd leave it there!

It can't do that, but it protects the chain from water and mud thrown down by the front of the tire.

I went like a week without a chain cover on my 500 and there is still grease splattered on the underside of the tail. That was about a year and a half ago too so... I've scrubbed it pretty good several times too. So unless you like a lot of clean up, keep it.

since i've had the bike, almost 8k miles ago. I use the dupont chain lube from walmart. It's not thick and it dries almost like a wax. I haven't had any issues of gunk under my fairings or on my pants.

Get a shop to make a brushed aluminum cover (or get it color matched). That would look great on a newer ninjette.

I've gone with/without a plastic piece over my chain for the last couple thousand miles. No chain lube to report here.

I took mine off both my bikes. Mainly for looks. And it saves a few seconds when I clean/lube my chain. Very little gunk fly up.

So you guys don't have fling with the DuPont lube? I use that now instead of whatever I had before which flung A LOT. I guess the 500 likes to vibrate screws loose because its fallen off before and only has one left now lol but maybe I'll just let it fall off this time

Good ol' parallel twins. Even my 250r used to vibrate screws loose over time (ones correctly torqued). Eventually, I was using a bit of blue loctite on everything.

I saw a used new gen in Pennsylvania the other day with a checkered steel plate chain guard. I can't say it looked good but it was different

I have a hugger to help with fling from the tire but the PJ1 Blue lube flings all over my pretty blue undertail and blue rims.

I keep mine there, because the chain guard prevents or at least I think it should prevent it from flying at me while riding if it were to break. I believe that's the actual purpose?
