SoCal run to Laguna Beach 06/09/12

Hi all. I want to do a little run to Laguna Beach on 06/09/12 (it’s a Saturday) I’m horrible at organizing so don’t think it’s going to be epic or anything haha. Just a ride down PCH to laguna beach (about an hour from long beach) It’s a nice ride there with nice scenery. We can grab something to eat there and just chat before heading back. Just to hang out and meet other 250 riders. Maybe meet up at starbucks around 10am (on willow and cherry) in long beach or we can pick up along the way. It’ll be a nice way to spend Saturday.. And afterwards, we can keep riding down PCH or head back. Majority vote. Hope we can get some riders to come out.

In, so long as work doesn't call me in that day!

Sorry I missed the last meet, hope to meet some cool people.

Will anyone be coming down from the SFV? It'd be nice to ride down with someone

SFV = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Fernando_Valley

North of the Santa Monica mountains, north of the 101/170 split. The 818 ;P

Sherman Oaks is where I'd be starting from

Oh yeah, please keep in mind that there isn’t really an itinerary for this ride. Its basically meet up at starbucks, chat for a bit, grab some coffee and wait for everyone to come and then we’ll take pch down to laguna beach. It should take about an hour or so to get there. Since this is a group ride, there will be no lane splitting or anything so that we can keep it safe and go at a comfortable pace for everyone Then once we get there, we can just pull over, find a spot that everyone wants to eat at and then just hang out and chat for awhile. It’s a nice ride there so hopefully you guys can make it! It’ll be nice to meet other riders

thats right! You’re coming from SFV? I traveled to Fresno for the long weekend and it was such a fun ride (even though I ran out of gas on the way back) but it was a nice ride. It was 240 miles or so. Hope you all make it.

Fresno? Cool

How'd you run out of gas? We have a gas gauge stock, lol!

Haha I know but the gas gauge so inaccurate! I usually fill up every 180 miles on the trip.. but I ran out of gas when I’ve only had 147 miles on it. I thought I had enough to make it to the next gas station since I know there are nice stations before heading up the mountains (I don’t like going to those little creepy ones) but I ran out of gas. I knew I did as soon as I lost power to my throttle I even dropped my helmet on the side of the road as I was walking my bike to the nearest gas station (which is probably a good 3-5 miles) so now my helmet has a nasty scratch.. luckily, a guy on a hayabusa stopped by and went out of his way to buy gas for me. So I was really thankful. We went to the next gas station together and I offered to pay for his gas and give him some money for helping out but he declined the cash offer. I am glad that we have people like that still in the world. Otherwise, It would of taken me at least an hour or more just to walk my bike to a gas station. Lesson learned!

Wow I hadn't realized the gas gauge was so far off! I'm glad that another rider stopped for you so lucky! It'd good to know that trait of riders helping other riders carries across multiple two wheeled domains - I know it from MTB, you always gotta stop and help another biker.

Sorry for your helmet though, it has battle scars now lol!

its okay. Helmet doesn't look too bad although it upset me. MIght just smooth it down with sand paper and spray paint it black or something. But yes, I was very thankful another biker came to my rescue lol... if i was in a car and ran out of gas, nobody would stop to help.. or it'll be very unlikely. So always fill up when in doubt!

Has nothing to do with testosterone ;P I'm really bad at *not* lane splitting, I just feel safer away from car's fenders!

Wow cory, you're pretty far away. I do hope you can make it but if not, no sweat
Anyway, does anyone have any particular place they want to eat at? That way, I can search around the area. Also, anyone want to volunteer as the sweeper? For those who is not sure what a sweeper is, sweeper is the last person riding in the group. The sweeper’s job is to make sure no one gets left behind and keep everyone safe within the group. I hate leading but I guess I don’t really have a choice unless someone else wants to lead

I can’t wait until Saturday.. Hope you all can make it!
