Frame painting/coating
How would you go about painting your frame?
Do they powder coat steel? Or should I just have it painted at a body shop.. or grab some engine enamel and do it myself? Any ideas anyone has to input will probably be selected from and put to use! I'm guessing I'll have to mask a ton of stuff off, which is no biggie I suppose. Thanks in advance.

remove everything from the frame, then send it off to be powder coated or sprayed with the toughest paint the paint shop has. I had the frame sandblasted and treated before sending it off for painting.
I had my frame painted on a dirt bike some years back and the frame came out beautiful. He used some epoxy paint and a coat of epoxy clear on top of the color coat. Be sure to plug up any and all threaded holes left on the frame to prevent the paint from gumming up the threads. It's that or chasing each hole after you get the frame back. I would not recommend using a rattle can if you want lasting results. |

I know Tims250 offered frame powdercoating of frames when he posted his wheel coating threads. Think his site is hppowdercoating.com.
Hate to say it, but think professional is the way to go here. Like Kelly said, need to get get tough paint and a good coating on top of it. I've used some black epoxy rattle-can that was supposed to last on some bits here & there. It didn't

I think the vibrations alone might rattle off any paint I could apply myself.
It needs some solid paint like a bmx/dirt jumping bike frame I think. I'll have to get out the phone book and call around. Depending on what a shop charges, this could get interesting. I really want to paint this sucker while I have it off though. Must have will power.. Edit: Ah here's that site with some more info http://www.hp-powdercoatings.com/
