World Superbike Championship Nürburgring Friday provisional qualifying results

Friday's provisional qualifying results from Germany's Nürburgring round of the World Superbike Championship show Carlos Checa with a new lap record at the top of the timesheetsAlthea Ducati Racing’s Carlos Checa was the man on the move as the World Superbike Championship resumed action at the Nürburgring’s “Grand Prix Strecke� circuit this weekend, with the veteran Spaniard one of the few riders to consistently lap in the 1:55s on his way to a new lap record of 1:55.232 (beating Max Neukirchner’s ’08 lap record of 1:55.471). Trailing a few tenths behind Checa was BMW’s Troy Corser, with Ducati Xerox’s Michel Fabrizio another 0.306 seconds back in third. Checa’s Althea Racing teammate Shane Byrne was the last rider in the 1:55s in fourth, with Fabrizio’s Ducati Xerox teammate Nori Haga only 0.028 seconds back in fifth. Championship leader Max Biaggi sits 0.053 seconds behind Haga in sixth, but his teammate Leon Camier crashed during the session and suffered a broken right wrist.
