Indeed.

I'm finding it even more amazing that my gear barely has a noticeable scratch on it. My pants got torn up and if you look at my belt on my pants you can see the damage. But on the high end gear I have, not visible

You should start a road rash fashion line for belts.

I think he was to busy fainting like a little B**** to take photos before he was hauled away and from what he said the bike is still in lockup until they open today.

Lol yep, funny thing though, the bolt holes didn't line up so I didn't bolt it on and it didn't come off in the crash

So I went and got my keys today. Apparently the key or the n1k was bent and they couldn't get it out. It wasn't bent from the accident so idk how that happened but I got my other keys so that's good.

Damage didn't look too bad for a 70mph crash, check it

I couldn't take a pic of the other side but I don't think there was any damage to it.

Probably more

I have a $1000 deductible, anyone think it's worth it to go that route or just fix it myself? My rates will go up to buy that other guy a new bumper, will they go up from claiming this too or is it like 1 accident 1 rate hike?

Sheesh, that's a big dent for a deductible. I'd do some research on the parts you KNOW you have to replace and price it all out. I'm not too sure how rates work since I've only gone through other people's insurance.

Is the driver going to call in to your insurance or are they waiting for you to make a move?

Any claim over $500, and it pretty much doesn't matter. As long as your insurance company thinks you're 51% or more responsible, your rates will be affected in the same way whether it's a $750 claim or a $10,000 claim.

But I would wait it out regardless of how morally wrong it is if he doesn't care enough to call your insurance which I'm assuming there was a report and he has all the information he needs then no need to tap your insurance if your deductible is 1K and it can be fixed for around the same price. But if it ends up being a lot you might have to bite the bullet.

More than likely, he will call his own insurance, which will get a hold of the police report, and come after Sean's insurance. If Sean hasn't filed with his insurance, his insurance might say no, in which case they come after Sean personally. His insurance has no legal responsibility toward anyone but Sean.

I would report it, get the insurance estimate, hope that it is really high (to include labor, of course) and then if you are confident in your ability to check the straightness of everything, fix it yourself so you don't have to pay the deductible. Also, like I said, if you don't report to the insurance, you end up paying all the towing fees, which also count against that deductible, it wouldn't be worth it to try to pay it yourself.

BTW, even if it never makes it to the insurance, the DMV knows about the accident, and will report it to your insurance, so it will come in as another accident, even if it isn't a claim.

Yes, by law they have no right to force you to their repair shop. They will try, and they succeed most of the time, because people don't know the law, but CA law does not allow them to force you to go anywhere.

You don't want to fix it yourself to save the money?

This is true, but there are differences in how it can affect insurance rates. If an accident comes through, but there is no claim, the rates will be much less likely to be affected. If they are affected, it will be for a smaller amount than if there were a claim paid out due to the accident.

That's a hole in your gas tank isn't it?

Your lucky your bike didn't go the way of the R-6

We should start a challenge to guess the total repair costs not including accessories.

I estimate $3500

Insurance usually let's you pick from a list of their "pre-approved" shops, and usually in that case you either don't have to deal with money at all (until your insurance bills you) or you just pay the deductible when you pick up. Some insurance co's let you pick ANYONE, but you'd then have to deal with reimbursement, which means it'll usually take a while for you to get your money back.

I'd be down to fix it myself depending on what it would cost.

I don't think that's a hole in the gas tank, there was no gas leaking

You know, I wanted the ABS version but the ABS isn't allowed to be sold in CA so I think I should sue CA for causing this accident.

Let's play, what if its totaled!

If its totaled I'll get around $12,000 back. Question is, what to do with that?

Get another n1k? I love the engine on this bike, so much torque down low that it's effortless to accelerate. The bike is also comfy and looks sexy though the suspension is a little meh. If I got another 1000, I'd really want ABS on it. ABS isn't something to be relied upon but it definitely would have saved (or helped save/reduce damage and injuries) my butt. The only way to get ABS is to buy from another state and it has to have 7500mi on it. So I'd be looking at a used out of state n1k

Other options - category is Sport touring capable bikes

The V-strom is a damn nice bike. That is the most comfortable bike I have ever sat on. Only downsides are I wouldn't have that sexxxy i4 engine and its bigger than Unregistered's ass

Some kinda used sport touring beamer. Like the R1200 Alex sold, that would be a damn nice bike to have.

What else?

True, unfortunately, it's not likely that there won't be some sort of claim from the other party.

I don't know how it works in other states, in CA they have to let you pick anyone, the only caveat is that if your shop of choice charges more than their shop of choice, they can give you problems with paying everything. If that happens you usually have to get a few estimates, in order to find out what is a reasonable repair cost.

I have yet to find a shop that is not willing to match the insurance estimate in order to get the insurance job though, which means there is zero difference between the insurances preferred shop, and yours.

I wouldn't say it's so unlikely. It could have been a beater with a new bumper scrape that the driver doesn't even care about.

Jiggles did say that the other driver didn't say a single word, so I'd wonder if the other driver is even legal. I've seen two such incidents here in GA and in both cases the other person was not a legal citizen with a legal driver's license so even though it was not their fault there was no claim.

I know your a Krapasaki fan boiii so what about getting a ZX14? Those are under 12k right? Jason and I have a guy local to us that loves using his busa as a commuter/two up day tripper. Or get a Ducati Streetfighter. You'll love the motor and it looks super cool. But two upping would be entertaining for about 2 minutes lol.

Or let me live vicariously through you. Screw comfort, storage and reliability...SXV 550! Keep the extra 5 grand for the mandatory 3 spare motors you'll need every month
