Oil View Glass Doesnt Show any oil
I just changed my oil and noticed before changing it, the view glass didn't show anything there. It was popped up on a trackstand sitting for about 10-15 minutes and still nothing. Immediately I thought I lost all my oil so I go one to change my oil filter and a TON of oil came out, came out to 1.6 or so quarts......
I change my oil and add another new 1.8 quarts and a few hours later from riding about 30min. I check the gauge and again it appears there is no oil in my view glass? And there is no oil in site under the engine. Im assuming this isnt normal, any thoughts? Thanks, YaBoiHuni |

Can't be on a trackstand for a legitimate reading in the sightglass. The bike needs to be level front to back, and left to right, for the reading in the sightglass to be valid.

As Alex stated above, hold the bike level by holding on to the handlebar while looking at the sight glass.

When running, the oil is pumped out of the bottom of crankcase and is spread out all over engine, so not much shows on the sight glass. Turn off engine and watch sight glass and you should see it slowly rise as oil drips back down to crankcase.

Read through this tech section to confirm you are using the correct procedure to check the oil -
https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_do_I_check_my_oil%3F. Basically, as previously noted - warm oil, engine off, balance vertical on level ground, wait 2-3 min - it should be between the upper and lower marks. Should take 2qts with filter to get to the top mark. Check your airbox for excessive oil if everything else checks out. With extended high speed operation they will pump oil from the crankcase breather into the airbox, but it shouldn't be excessive unless there are engine problems like extreme blow-by. |

Balancing the bike while bending over to see the sight glass is extremely awkward.
Telescoping mirror-on-a-stick is the simple solution, available at any hardware store, Harbor Freight, big box home improvement store, or Amazon. Find a level spot, hop on the bike, stand it up and use the mirror.

Holding the front brake guarantees it's not going to roll forward and flip up the stand. It's nowhere near as sketchy as taking a bike off of a rear stand by yourself IMO. |

I attached an esp8266 with level sensors and stream that to my smart phone. Then I can check my oil level on my phone as I text and drive. It is just so much easier.
No, I just level it out and hold it with one arm as I look down at the sight glass.

Yeah, they're great for working on autos too. Can reach into tight spots such as deep into dash. And you can lower them head-first into engine-compartment to get to difficult to reach areas.

I used this mirror "trick" this weekend. The mirror is now in my tank bag, for use any time.
