Hey @Jiggles how do you mount yours? What are your favourite mounting spots?

Also what do you use for video editing?

With the sticky mounts it comes with. Any spot I think looks cool, currently there are 3 on my 250s gas tank.

Agreed. It does 720p at 60fps and 170 degrees of FOV. More than enough for youtube and even watching on a 40-50 inch tv.

The hero 2 is a mild improvement in quality that you will never notice (especially if putting videos on youtube) at best.

That's so helpful. You could have bought it used. The least you can do is say what store/deal so that if in fact $140 is a bad price than people don't opt for the deal.

I noticed when I view videos that were taken with the hero 2 on my 55" Samsung LED the quality between the two is very noticeable. I have my computer hooked up to the tv with an HDMI cable too. I don't know how to really describe it but once I switched from the normal VGA to HDMI cable and view the videos from a hero 2 in 1080 they basically don't even look like videos...they look like I'm staring right into the windscreen of a bike going down the road. I think it's one of the features on newer HDTV's. I know it's called auto-motion plus on my Samsung and have heard its called something like cinema smooth on another brand or something similar to that. One of the sales associated at best buy was explaining to me when I was looking at TVs last year that it has to do with the refresh rate and how fast the the pixels refresh and when watching blu rays and other high def media it plays them in the original frames per second it was originally shot in, therefore making it appear so lifelike. Some friends of mine don't like it and they say watching movies like that makes them nauseous but personally, I love the quality and how lifelike it looks. When I originally went tv shopping I found a 51" Samsung on sale for $999 and explained to the guy how I had seen Iron Man playing on a display tv in the store a couple months back and it appeared so lifelike and he said that tv would look like that but after I took it home and hooked it up and played with the settings it wasn't even close. I took it back and another associate pointed me to the tv I have now and I wanted that lifelike quality so bad I was willing to pay like 1300 more for it and on a bigger screen.

Agreed. Once you add a few sticky pack mounts and suction cup mount, you'll be at $200.

fatestkid, your in canada, futureshop might price match that, if they have any of the older gopros.

Better deal

$240 for Hero 2 Motorsports package on Amazone with free shipping.

they have sales on the old go pros every other month ranging in price. its not a bad price, its just not a super good one.

and you're right, if you watch your videos on youtube the quality is about like filming with a potato, but i know a lot of people who keep high quality copies of their stuff to watch on the hi-def. the qualilty is noticable but like i said if you are going to convert it to potato-quality it really doesnt matter.

When I watch them on YouTube in the 1080 quality setting they look pretty damn clear to me to the point where it looks like its happening right in front of me. I don't get what you guys are saying about watching them on YouTube and them being crappy quality. I don't think it's even possible for the quality of the ones I've seen in the 1080 to be any better. I don't have a GoPro yet but I think I'm about to get the Hero 2. Just trying to do some research into it as I do with everything I purchase. I started this thread last night to get some input on the hero 2.

If your filming anything with fast motion (motorcycle related), set the gopro and gopro 2 to 720 @ 60FPS, much much smoother than 1080 @ 30FPS, and if you want to get fancy editing, makes it easier to do slowmo.

Nah futureshop/bestbuy here are a bunch of a**holes they won't price match anything ".com" only ".ca".

As far as the argument goes for the mounts I think it is valid. I personally only wanted the chest mount so I ordered it on top and the total was around $180 including shipping and tax which is a good price for me and so I shared.

What he is saying is that a lot of youtube content is in 480p (standard def). If you use youtube HD (720p) than it looks great on a monitor.

Now if you blow it up to a 40+ inch screen than 720P starts looking not so good. 1080P 60FPS from the hero 2 really shines here. Also the HD2 is much better at low light filming.

Ok that's what I was thinking. If I end up getting a GoPro the only one I'm interested in is the Hero 2 anyways. What was @htdub talking about with the 720 @60 FPS being smoother than 1080 @30 FPS? Can the hero 2 not do 1080 @60 FPS? Of course 1080 @60 FPS will be alot better than 1080 @30 FPS but @htdub only mentioned using 720 @60 FPS for a smoother video.

no. what im saying is watching uncompressed 1080 video looks better than compressed (youtube) 1080 video. if you cant tell the difference, well, good for you. maybe consider a trip to the eye doctor.

think of the difference between a bluray and streaming in "hd" on youtube. you still get plenty of compression artifacts when its in "1080" hd mode in youtube.

not to mention the hero1 doesnt handle 1080 in 60fps, only 30fps. and motorcycles need to be 60fps. hero2+1080+60fps = drool

Here's what I'm thinking though, LIVE ACTION PANORAMIC RIDE VIEW!!!

I think I'd need 3 maybe 4 gopros to do it

All else being the same (Go pro resolution, Display and video) the difference between youtube 1080p and uncompressed 1080p will not be night and day. But yes there will be a difference.

like i said- maybe you should go to the eye doctor.

do me a favor. find any 1080p video on youtube. find the best quality one you can find. go to any panning shot where motion is involved with a moving/changing subject and pause it. try to tell me the compression hasnt completely ****ed the image.

Get the GoPro 2, big difference in detail and color, file size is also larger. The processor is a little better for 1080P, most camera's have difficulty with true 1080P even though they can do it. The menu is also much nicer on the 2's.

Stick to 720P, camera's (small) are not ready for 1080P yet, too much processor overhead. They still do a nice job but loose a lot.

Video done in 720P

It looks much nicer before youtube dithers it down.

I'd say it depends on what you are going to do withe your gopro. Upload **** to youtube? get the cheaper one. Show off sexy videos to your friends on your 60" Samsung E8000? Get the gopro 2.

For me, I make videos for my own enjoyment, most likely none of them will ever see a 55" high end HDTV and so the enhancements to video image just won't be worth the price when I could instead get 2 Gopros for the price for the price of a Gopro 2.

And even if I put my gopro vids on a nice TV the images will still be phenomenal, this thing looks ****ing awesome. I mean especially when I compare it to the quality of my Contour Roam, the Gopro has way better video than the contour.

Oh one other thing, does anyone know how the gopro 2 handles low light? My gopro sucks with low light stuff, I mean even my $60 kodak out performs the gopro in low light conditions. Any improvements on the gopro 2?
