CVMA 250/300 Racers, help please

So I'm trying to prep my bike to make at least one day of the November round but reading through the rule book I realized that my k&n pod filters make me illegal for pretty much everything unless I am an expert. Am I understanding the rule book correctly? What if any races can I sign up for without having to re-install the airbox and calling for a new tune?
Can I skip amateur and move straight into expert so I can keep the pod's or is this a bad idea?

Yep, if you want to race a 250, you'll have to reinstall the airbox to race pretty much everywhere, including motowest gp, wera, AFM, and of course CVMA. So if that's the direction you're planning to go, you may as well just get it over with. Whether you're expert or amateur has absolutely no effect on the rules for the 250 class, so not sure what you're referring to there?

With that set up, you could still race up with Formula Twins against people on SV650s, but I don't know how fun that'd be.

Both 250 races use supersport rules

zombie is right. both 250ss and ulws do not allow pods so you need to throw the stock airbox back on AND the snorkel. Other option is to race up in the sv formula class, which probably would suck

CVMA 250/Ulws should always be Supersport. You should never take a well established Supersport class and turn it into a formula class.

The issue is scoring them together.... Plenty of threads on that

Yeah, if this is your first race, I highly doubt you'll get protested

You should put the airbox back on anyway but as long as you're having fun with us it wont be a problem right off the bat.

That being said, I'm not racing the November round so clearly it will be a boring one. Come out in January instead.

True, general rule is you only get protested if you win or beat people who care (I'm neither)

So I guess my reading comprehension was not a fail : (
Gotta say, the air-box removal was probably the worst headache I have had with this bike and I do not look forward to re-installing. If I can find my parts and get a tune and etc, etc, I will see you all for the Sunday closer. Thanks for the replies.

just cut the bottom tabs off of the airbox. then it easily slides out the back/bottom after you remove the battery box and undertail

Just use a generic full exhaust map for one weekend.

Curious, what are you running PC or microTune?

That's not really true anymore.

Competition Bulletin - November 2012
Ultra Lightweight Shootout Class will be run under Formula Rules. Also 4 stroke street based machines up to 300cc, and Street based 2-strokes up to 125cc are legal.

They changed it since then.

From http://www.cvmaracing.com/uploads/CVMA_Rulebook.pdf
"UltraLightweight Shootout (6 laps) – 250cc SuperSport machines."

I think its bad form to be changing rules like that on the fly.

yeah I was following the latest rulebook online dated July 30, 2013. It makes it super confusing going back and forth like that. I wish they would make a decision on the dogbone issue already too.

Leave your dogbone in it's legal for this next round no matter what they decide down the road.

In order to allow the 300 to race alongside the 250s in the ULWS, they worded it so any bikes up to 300cc can be raced within SS rules. In other words, you cannot bump your 250cc engine to 300cc and expect it to be legal in the ULWS.

do you mean any "stock, oem motor up to 300cc"??

heres what i disagree with... you are allowed to deck your head in supersport rules? how is that not a massive engine modification? you are changing everything about the engine when you deck the head. but i'm not allowed to bore or stroke up to 300cc? and i can't do the same thing as decking the head by using high comp pistons? ... but decking the head is legal. what? this subject is clearly though.

Totally agree. Also you're allowed to deck the head and what not but not allowed to remove the snorkel. I don't understand that.

it's a stupid rule for rich people. do you know how much it costs to mill a head? you can use thinner gaskets but the gasket is already fairly thin. you aren't going to gain much by just swapping gaskets.... but you need that ****ing snorkel in or you aren't racing. i was laughing when i saw SProcket's engine setup which is SS legal in like every series.... that thing is nowhere close to a stock engine.

I have the microtuner from area P. Just sent Kerry a message to see if he can load me up with a map? Biggest issue now is making sure I still have the entire airbox and hardware in the garage. Seems like I should be good to go for Sunday granted I can get the time this weekend to finish drilling and prepping.

New question, so the axle nuts on my 300 are castle nuts with a cotter pin, do I need to remove the cotter pin and wire or will they pass me through tech with the stock configuration?
