In the market for Sprocket/Chains

I was searching through the boards, and I am not seeing a thread on where/what people purchase when it comes to chains and sprockets. I know there is a lengthy discussion on what types of combinations are good but not really on brands of chains and sprockets.

I personally am wanting to change to a 15/44 change from the stock 14/45 (I believe that is the right size), since now I am going to LMU/LAX area every Friday from the OC riding the freeway most of the time.

I also am racking up to over 8000k on my chain (but constantly cleaned/lubed) and would like to change it out with the sprockets too.

Ty for any helps guys!

Just swapped my sprocket out today! Bought a JT Front Steel Sprocket from Bikebandit.com here:

http://www.bikebandit.com/jt-front-s...=2072&t=1&td=1

Took it for a test ride afterwards (changed the oil and tire at the same time) and it's definitely an improvement. On paper, acceleration is slightly less, but not having to shift constantly actually more than makes up for it, imho.

Don't forget a breaker bar with a cheater bar. I bought a socket set from Harbor Freight that included one. Also, I used a 3' black glavanized pipe from Lowes. Only ~$10.

Coupons for Harbor Freight are online with a little Googling.

Thanks for the info! that looks like a pretty good price.

Did you only change out only the front sprocket? and was it the 15?

Yep, just the front sprocket, and it was 15T. Some folks on here have changed the rear sprocket all the way down to 41T. I kept my rear sprocket stock as I do most of my riding/commuting in town.

when will I have to also change out the chain? how far will the OEM chain count be compatible? because since I am mostly on the freeway, (with cars usually going around 80) i'd like to lower the rpms just a tad from 10k

My front 15T is a JT steel sprocket as well & seems to be holding up very well with the original OEM chain after ~11,000mi. Not sure how far down the stock chain will go with rear tooth count, but suspect it's pretty far.

RE: replacing the stock chain, that'll depend on how worn the sprockets/chain are. The common wisdom I've been told is to replace all three at once so you don't have an old/messed up chain eating your new sprocket(s) or vice versa. But if the chain's still in good condition and has a lot of life left, don't see why you'd have to replace it unless you wanted to be really really sure they all wore together

Hey all sorry to revive an old thread but...

I am also in the market for new sprockets (15/43) and chain but can't find/don't know where the best place is to get it from.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best place with the best price? I know there are cheaper aftermarket chains but I'd like to buy close to OEM. I only saw one suggestion above.

Thanks

(note- I have a pregen, but it shouldnt matter if the site carries all years)
