Hello from Kentucky!

Hey Y'all, yes, we really say y'all, but no we're not all hillbillies. Anyway, I've been riding since I was about 2 (so yes, about 38 years). I've got a bike for everyday of the week and it doesn't matter what you ride, it's all fun and air in the hair (yes, through the vents of my helmet). I'm here to find out the best ways to get the best performance out of my 300. I hope one day it will be what I get to turn my youngest son loose on as his first street bike. I hope I can learn a lot from this community and I am glad to share my knowledge if anyone has any questions of me. If you think you may be in my area sometime give me a shout and we'll see if we can get together for a ride.

Thank you all!

Thank you. It's great to be part of a welcoming community. Does anyone have any good suspension upgrade tips? I'm already considering a front caliper upgrade to a 4 piston Tokico. I am an aggressive rider (both street and track) and I'm kind of a fat kid (195#) for a 300, but I love playing on small bikes. Kind of curious if anyone has ever considered or done a SV650 front end swap. I've got one laying around my garage from a GSXR600 front end swap I did for a buddy a couple of years ago. All just kind of ideas at the moment, but I believe this will be a fun build.

I put the shock from a 300 into my 250 but that's the only thing I've done to the suspension.

I've herd of a stiffer rear shock swap for the 300 (from a GSXR if I'm not mistaken) but I haven't figured out what all is needed for it or exactly what GSXR it is. lol

Do search here for "GSXR shock swap" and you'll find lots of good threads with photos. Typically what's needed:

1. change/drill bushings on shock
2. widen dog-bone mounting width

One of threads in search has spreadsheet of various GSXR models & years with shock-length, spring-rate and fitment (yes/no to chopping fender for clearance). General consensus is you end up with too stiff suspension using shock from bike that weighs 100-lbs more. Might be OK for track-bike.

I finally got to dig around and see what I was in for on the rear shock swap. It seems to get a lot of mixed emotions. Seeing that I do not know the other folks riding styles and preferences but that I am 195# and I like to ride "fast and aggressive" according to those I do ride with and that I do intend to take the bike to the smaller tracks, I think I'll give it a go. I've got a 2006 GSXR600 rear shock laying around in my garage from a previous track bike build so I won't be out any money. It will also give me good time getting to know this bike a little better. lol I like to play with my bikes. If I end up doing the SV650 front end swap I'll try to do a thread on it and how the results turn out. I mean, it can't be any harder than putting a ZX-14 suspension (front and rear) under a 1999 Yamaha Roadstar (the AntiCruizer).
