Kickstand Kill switch - Inert
I just replaced my engine over the holidays. (Threw rod at 65mph total bottom end loss on original engine)
Gave old engine to my scrap metal buddy. Got used engine (also from 2006) on EBay for $350 Replacement was fun and easy for 35+ years’ experience motorcycle mechanic. (Don't recommend you do yourself without proper tools and experience and patience) New engine runs Boss!!! Only issue with bike is the kick stand cut off circuit. Here is why I'm posting: When kick stand is up circuit is closed When kick stand is down circuit is open. This is proper operation for ground interrupt to ignition circuit. Basically the kickstand circuit has been taken out of the path and does nothing to interrupt the ignition circuit. Anyone come across this?

The way I'm understanding your explanation... While in 1st gear with stand UP, the bike shuts off, but it doesn't while in 1st gear/stand down?

Your kickstand switch probably isn't working? How many years did you say you had as a mechanic?

NO and I doubt it
the kickstand switch is nothing more than a SPST switch that is open when the stand is down.
I have voltmeter tested kickstand it is closed when up and open when down. Test procedure is to isolate kickstand and open and close bullet connectors. What I'm saying is the kickstand switch and kickstand circuit seem to be floating.. Floating as in - not in the ground interrupt path no matter what the open or closed state of the two leads that go to kickstand are it does nothing to the ignition circuit. thanks, O

Probably just needs a good cleaning. You can bypass it pretty easily as a temp fix but I wouldn't leave it that way.

how/why would one go about "by-passing" a circuit that is NOT doing any thing? Its already "bypassed" that's the issue. Thanks Ghostt for the links. From the first link "The sidestand safety is a single pole, single throw (SPST) switch located at the sidestand pivot bracket on the left side of the motorcycle. When the sidestand is in the up (riding) position, the safety switch closes and completes a circuit to chassis ground. When the sidestand is down (parked) the safety switch opens and the circuit is not completed." SO if you disconnect the kickstand from the bullet connectors in pic and just leave the 2 dangling wires the bike should NOT have ignition ground. http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/File:Ninja_250_054_cr.jpg My bike runs no matter what you do with those two wires. OPEN/CLOSE no effect. They are already "bypassed" Does anyone know where those two wires terminate?

Unfortunately I do not, I would advise to look very careful at the wiring diagrams

I'd tug on the wire (it's green right?) until you see where it is in the ignition module. You could pull it out and butt splice it or buy the right pins at radioshack and replace the wire altogether. Unless of course you didn't rule out the ignition module malfunctioning.
