Touch Up Paint for 2007 Blue Ninja? Anyone...

Any tips would be appreciated. Color Rite and DupliColor are kind of expensive.

I was going to send you to the touchup paint article on the wiki:

http://www.ninjette.org/wiki/Touchup_paint

but all it does is send you to the same Color Rite company that you're already aware of. If you do end up finding a less expensive source, make sure to post it back up either here or within the wiki article so other folks can find it as well. Good luck...

Thanks Alex. I'll check around and see if I can find an "El Cheapo" solution to my problem.

I just went to a local paint shop and had them do a color match. Price difference: I'm not sure about just a small amount, but I got a quart for $90 instead of colorrite's $190 per quart. It's a bit better I think in price. I still haven't had the chance to put it on the bike, so I couldn't tell you if it's a good enough match or not.

its gonna be hard from sources outside of colorrite because the plasma and thunder blues are pretty unique and with a hint of sparkles. 1 spray can, though, can repaint 2 whole fairings (4 coats) so that might help justify the cost :P

It's true, there's quite a bit of stuff in it isn't there? Again, I'm not sure if this is a match or not, but the paint I got has a list of different things it has in it.....

Organic Blue, Bright Coarse Alum, Blue Pearl, and a basic Blue all in it at the same time. Again, we'll see if it matches right once I actually have the money to get my new fairings. (Fiberglass and inexpensive, but the AP exhaust comes first.)

Thanks for the info. I am not really looking for perfection. A decently matching paint will work.

If anyone has a particular brand and part no. for a little cheap color, that would be great. Otherwise, I'll live the scratches.

I found out that there isn't really a paint number for this color. Like Tim said, there's quite a few things in this paint that make it very unique. You could try going to a paint shop and seeing how much a color match would cost. You'll see how much it'll cost without them actually mixing anything, so you won't have to pay anything. It's fairly easy, and if you don't buy any, no harm done.

You don't have to buy in quarts from Color Rite- they sell little pens full of color for a lot less. BF says his primer and special colors ranged from 10-30, but they have lots of smaller amounts to get.

How much are you looking to cover, Pur?

For example, this is pricing for my f4i silver:

touch-up Pen +$15.95
Touch-up Jar +$20.95
Aerosol +$33.95
1/2 Pint +$81.95
Pint +$119.95
Quart +$189.95

Thanks for the tips all. I'm looking to fill a few scratches, that's all. I think that a pen will do, but from what I read, I need a base and a secondary color. I wonder if I can get away with just the base or overcoat? Hmmmmm...

Anyone?

I did a few years back and they always tell you that you need to buy all of the combo's (sometimes up to 3). But, in real life, you may be able to get away with buying the main color only.

Yeah, BF says if you just want something that blends mostly in, you can try just the top or middle color; if it's a thinner scratch you can get away with this pretty easily.
