Hawaii riders does this worry you?
Motorcycle-related deaths continue to climb in Hawaii
21 fatalities so far this year vs 32 total last year. That in combination with GMAC: Hawaii 49th in driver knowledge makes for troubling riding. |

It scares me and I'm 3000 miles away. Stay on your side of the road Hawaiians!!!!
The statistics sounds more scary when you have a lower population to crash. Though I don't know what the ratio is. 21 fatalities doesn't sound like all that much where I'm from. I think there's already been like 40 something covered in the news so far this year. Hey! Wait! I'm moving to Hawaii!!!! |

There was one in the news just this week about 2 riders who died after colliding in greenville, one was on a moped and the other was on a cruiser.

i don't know if hawaii is any more dangerous than other places, but it does seem that there has been a lot of deaths here lately.
as far as if it worries me? nah. just reminds me that i have to continue riding defensively. |

It has been awhile since I looked at Hawaii news, but if my memory still works, in the majority of the deaths, the rider was not wearing a helmet. About the only HD riders I see wearing any kind of lid is the military riders.

I'm from Puerto Rico and riding a motorcycle down there is suicide!! By LAW you HAVE to wear full gear( helmet, boots, long sleeve, long pants) thats how bad it is! |

that article is a sobering reminder...
i'll admit that driving/riding here on kauai does have it's own set of....dangers.. not unlike dangers on roads anywhere else, it's just different. no multi-laned freeways (on kauai) for example... i believe that article says the fatalities are split between loss of control and vehicles in the path of a cycle. that says alot! it's a reminder to spend my dollar's worth of attention wisely. we are motorcycle pilots. it's up to us to mimize our risks.
