a Guy in his BMW SUV likes my 250R . . .

Hi, i just got home not long ago from a short ride! During my way home, i stopped at a red light, then this HONK* .... HONK-HONK** im like WTF?
then i here a guy yellin at me to my Right! (Hes in a BMW SUV)
"Hey... nice bike man, is that a 250?"
Im like, "Yeah"
He asks, "What year is that?"
I tell him, "2009, Brand New"
he replies, "Cool, didnt they remake them in 2007?"
me, "Nope, 2008 they did... the 2008's and 2009's are the Same!"
him, "Oh cool.... (looks at his 10 yr old Son... tells him sumin...)
him, "How FAST does it go? like 70-80 MPH?"
I LOL... "No man... ive had mine up too about 115MPH, the Speedo goes up to 120 MPH"

Him, "WHAT? 120MPH? on a 250R? ... HOLY COW MAN! - I used too have a older Ninja 250 years ago! Nice Bike, take care!"

(Light turns Green, i look around... traffic is all Good)

me, "LATER"

(RPMs up too 9k... takes off... BAM shifts into 2nd @ 10kRPM, and about 10kRPM through the other gears!)

Traffic is LONG was back! im like ROFL, fun FUN FUN!!! i roll off the throddle... slows back too 55MPH (limit) and cruises on!

- I was doing like 80 MPG as i hit 6th gear! haha

i dunno, 5-10 miles later that guy catches up... and HONKs again, as he turns south... he waves with a Smile, and i smile and wave back too him!

SO far, during the short 2 months ive had my Ninja Nate! thats probly the coolest, longest Talks ive had with someone in a car/truck at a Light!

Makes me feel good that ppl appretiate Ninja Nate!!!

great story, but there's no way your bike does 115... I'd be surprised if you can hit 100.

Cool story! Glad Ninja Nate is getting some second looks.

Am I going to have to be the Debbie Downer to let you know about the speedometer?

link --> http://www.ninjette.org/wiki/Why_is_...eally_going%3F

With stock gearing and stock tire sizes, the ninjette hits its revlimiter in top gear right around 99-100 mph.

I get that a lot but every one think it is 600cc. Only one person I have met on the road knew it was a 250. When they ask is that a 600cc I just smile.

I read that link...
Well i dont have a GPS gizmo, but if a COP pulls me over, and asks me HOW FAST I WAS GOING! I can ask him " I dunno, you tell me!"

But for Real... i was at around 11,000-11,500 RPM @ 115 MPH on my Speedo! One time on I-94 East bound in Michigan! I think the throddle was totally MAXED, and the RPMs too... i did over 100MPH long enuff too see my RPMs STOP climing higher! But to your link, yes i read b4 i joined this fourm, Ninja 250s wont go a TRUE 120MPH and such! bummer

No one is doubting that your speedo showed you that, all we're saying is that your speedo isn't giving you an accurate reading. With bikes that have digital speedometers, you can put these little gadgets inline that recalibrate them to read actual speed, and you can fine tune them using GPS and other methods. Unfortunately that's not feasible on ours, with the old-school mechanical speedo running from the front wheel. Would really be nice to have a speedo that is reasonable accurate, at least as accurate as most of our cars are, but most bikes aren't set up that way.

since on the topic of speedo accuracy, does anyone know if an aftermarket kit like the koso set is more accurate?

Forget the top speed, I'm impressed with the gas mileage.

Have a story for ya. Not long after I got my bike here, I was at a light in the turning lane when I heard a woman just jabbering away. I don't think she took a breath during the time at the light. I look over and this newer camaro with a grey headed older guy and a rather obese lady in the pass. seat. The expression on his face was priceless. The lady was just talking away and oblivious to what was going on and he was sitting there, staring at me on my bike with an expression that read, "I wish I had that right now". He never said anything but his face said it all. He followed my for several miles.

Hehe, nice stories, Dave and Chris. Guess not all SUV drivers are douche bags after all.

The most attention my Ninja got was from the cook at my workplaces' cafeteria. He was really interested in the Ninja, said "I bet that thing's really fun to ride", and asked me about its specs. Haven't had any comments from random cagers, though.

I've been told that mine indicates a bit low (bike is faster than indicated). They can be fine tuned though by adjusting the tire diameter setting in them. I haven't hooked a GPS up though to check.

You will it hits more often when the windows are down and you glance to the left/right and look at them. If you look straight ahead they are less likely to engage. If I wanna be bothered I give them that little angled helmet turn ... works well.
