Question Question about Highway Driving!

I've had my 250r for about a year now and I'm considering upgrading to a Ninja 650r for better highway driving but I'm not sure if it's really worth it.

My main concerns:
1) I weigh 180 and my gf riding on the back weighs 130.
2) I will be averaging speeds of 70-80mph for 6-8 hours at a time

Will this hurt my 250r engine in the long term? Keeping it at 9,000 - 10,000 RPM for such a long time??

Please help! I love my 250r but I need to know if it will survive!

Won't hurt it a bit. The lil Ninja LOVES to rev.

The only problem you will have with the 250R on a 6 to 8 hour run is a sore butt

This is the funniest thing I have read today. Sorry but I don't see you averaging 70-80 mph for 6-8 hours. If you add in that you have to stop for gas that brings your average down to probably 35-40. Then you have to add in stopping for relieve the back pain from the gf, riding on the back, hitting you continuously as she is yelling, "we have to stop I have to pee, I have to smoke, I need drink, are we there yet, THIS SUX, I'll never do this again, YOU SUCK, I want a new b/f, I'm telling my mother, I'm telling your mother, my ass hurts, and I'll never do this again", bring your average down to the 20-25mph range.

Where are you headed that takes so long to get there?

This just made me laugh out loud really loud, the only problem with that is I’m at work. I sit up on a podium above my department and everyone, I mean everyone that works for me just looked at me like I’m crazy…

pretty sure he meant he would be doing highway speeds 70-80mph while on the highway, not that his average velocity for the trip would be 70-80mph...

nice comprehension on your part though, and good response

No no, THIS is probably the funniest thing I've ever read. And it's completely true to boot.

I took my girlfriend on a 75 mile ride to the beach last month on my Ninja 1000 and she was doing all of the above. And again, this was on the comparably comfortable Ninja 1000, not the 250 or the 650 this guy was looking at getting (and congrats on your purchase, by the way).

Admittedly a 150 mile ride in six hours' time is a little excessive since we never do two-up riding, but c'mon! You agreed to get on! lol

I'm not sure how experienced you are, so may be useless info, but something that took me a bit realize, is that the bike HATES being bogged down. When you're zipping up a hill, with the throttle fully open, and you're just not having enough oomph, don't be afraid to shift down. I'm a BIG guy (probably equal to your two up), and I go up STEEP Seattle hills at 85mph daily no problem as long as I'm not in top gear while doing it.

No joke, you stick you girlfriend on that church pew rear seat on the ninja 250 for 6-8 hours, and she will be looking for a new boyfriend at the next gas station.

I cant imagine going that far on the 250 in a single shot ride. I can handle about 4 hours on it straight, and then even I need a break.

Lol, yeah, that'd be awesome if I had one! All my helmets are manly man helmets though. Fatties look funny enough on little sport bikes enough already. I'd NEVER be brave enough to actually wear that helmet. It would be hilarious though. If only I had bigger balls.

I really need to stop reading your post while I'm at work. All my employees are starting to wonder why I keep laughing so hard.
